Dana Chase, equipment manager, Glen Ellen Country Club, Millis, MA
For me, returning to the beautiful Emerald Isle represents many milestones. Though I have seen a bit of the country before and met a number of the people, this is truly the first time in which I will be immersed in part of its culture.
How I got here is a story unto itself, and I'll just recap it quickly. Jon Kiger and I met one another during the 2010 Ryder Cup matches at Celtic Manor in Wales (a huge thank you to Patrick Callaby and Golftechs.net for making that happen). Jon interviewed some of the volunteer equipment techs as part of TurfNet's coverage of the event, and we have stayed in touch ever since. It was Jon's continued dedication to maintaining relationships that brought on the invitation for me to assist the equipment manager at the K Club for this prestigious event.
I adjusted my very first reel nineteen years ago -- and yes, I did clip off the tip of my fingernail -- I never imagined that it would lead to me traveling out of the country and assisting at an event that will be watched worldwide. Though I will be eager to share my experience with the crew and members of Glen Ellen CC upon my return, it will be the sharing of another adventure with my folks (and maybe a few pictures with some of the pro golfers (are you listening Mr. Mcllroy?) that will mean the most to me.
