Dr. Shetlar will discuss the differences among the new neonicotinoids, the insects they control and how long these materials remain within the turf environment. He also will discuss timing of applications that will allow turf managers to control two or more common pest insects with a single application. He also will discuss the value of neonicotinoids combined with pyrethroids as well as other unique insecticides such as fipronil and acelepryn.

The discussion will center around an overview of new fungicides, their chemistry, effectiveness and potential use for turfgrass disease control. Although there are new chemicals that are triazole, sterol-inhibiting fungicides (e.g. Trinity, Tourney) their properties and effectiveness for different diseases differs. There is a relatively new QOi fungicide, DisArm, that is marketed recently, as well as several new Pythium fungicides or fungicide combinations. An overview of their chemistry, properties and effectiveness (there is much we don't know yet) will be presented for discussion. We will also discuss how these new fungicides may be incorporated into disease control programs, if appropriate.
