Water conference set for July

The inaugural Irrigation Association Water Conference is scheduled for July in Park City, Utah.

Irrigation industry professionals, university researchers and others will discuss a variety of topics related to water use and water conservation, including current and future water challenges, how climate change affects water supplies and usage, models for sustainability and predictions on the future of water.

The event is scheduled for July 22-23 at The Canyons Grand Summit Hotel in Park City.

Spectrum unleashes WatchDog loggers

Spectrum Technologies Inc. recently launched its new WatchDog A-Series of data loggers.

The new A-Series replaces Spectrum’s 100 Series line of data loggers.

Upgrades to the A-Series include a battery than can last up to 50 percent longer than previous offerings, data storage of 83 days, blinking LED light that indicates the unit is recording and LCD sensor readings.

Georgia club launches Dye scholarship program

The first two recipients of the Pete Dye Agronomy and Architecture Scholarship will intern this summer at The Ford Plantation in Savannah, Ga.

The newly created scholarship, which is funded by The Ford Plantation in honor of its namesake, is designed to help educate future golf course architects.

The internship will include a focus on environmentally friendly golf course planning. For example, interns will learn about The Ford Plantation's recent transition to precision agriculture, which requires the application of fertilizer based on GPS data.

The program will be overseen by superintendent Nelson Caron, who along with Dye, will choose the recipients based on a review of essays submitted by the applicants.

Woodward named to expansive LPGA committee

GCSAA chief executive officer Mark Woodward, CGCS, is one of 25 representatives from the golf industry to join the LPGA Advisory Council.

The commission provides guidance to LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens on a variety of matters concerning LPGA business.

Other members of the committee include former Department of Homeland Security director Tom Ridge; World Golf Hall of Famers Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez; Peggy Conlon of The Advertising Council Inc.; Carol Corcoran of the LPGA; Peter Derby, formerly of the Securities and Exchange Commission; Nancy Dorn of General Electric; Alice Dye of Pete Dye Inc.; Evern Cooper Epps of The UPS Foundation; Rae Evans of the Evans Capitol Group; Frank Fahrenkopf of the American Gaming Association; Bonnie Hill of B.
