Perhaps you intended to submit a photograph of your dog for consideration in the TurfNet Superintendent’s Best Friend Calendar presented by BASF, but you’ve never gotten around to it. Or, maybe you have done so in the past, but for some reason this year you have elected not to.
Or, could it be that you’ve submitted your dog’s picture year after year, but it has never been chosen to be on the calendar so this year you’ve decided enough is enough? If that’s the case, all we can say is the competition to get into the calendar can be a bit “ruff.”
Whatever the reason, there is still time to submit a photo for next year’s calendar - although it is winding down - and we have solicited expert help to explain the process.
Toni Riggin Bucci, Ph.D., (at left) of BASF Turf and Ornamentals talks on
TurfNet TV
about why you should nominate your dog and offers tips that might help land your pooch on the pages of next year’s calendar. We won’t go into too many specifics here, you’ll have to watch the video for that – in fact, if you haven’t already done so check out some of the other video offerings while you’re visiting that part of our Web site. There is a lot of entertaining and useful information in there. Come to think of it, Dr. Bucci also is teaching a
TurfNet University
Webinar on Nov. 11 that is designed to help superintendents better understand what is involved in the labeling process of various pesticides, so why not visit
TurfNet University
to attend that as well. Now back to the calendar.
A panel of judges will choose 14 dogs (December 2009 through December 2010, plus the cover) to appear in the calendar. All dogs, even those who do not appear in the calendar, will be featured in a online, video slideshow, and all dog owners who submit an entry also will receive a coffee mug featuring your dog’s likeness. So get your camera, and get busy.
To nominate a dog, but only after you’ve watched the video, please send slides, prints or CDs of digital images to Production Department, Turnstile Publishing Co., 1500 Park Center Drive, Orlando, FL 32835, or e-mail digital images (taken on a setting of at least 4 megapixels) to amurray@turfnet.com. For more information, call Anna Murray at 407-563-7070.
Submissions must include the dog’s name, age and breed; photographer’s name; complete contact information on the dog's owner, including name, title, address, phone number and e-mail address; and the name and location of the golf course where dog and owner both work.
Deadline for submission is July 31.
