My introduction to REAL Irish music

odonoghues2.jpgThe first night out I was lucky enough to go to O’Donoghue’s, a historic pub in Dublin which is known for being the place where The Dubliners first started. I could hear the music being played from outside and as soon as I walked in I got my first glimpse of the culture of a traditional “session”. Three or four singers and musicians were sitting in the front enjoying a pint, and were taking turns entertaining the crowd.

highkings_poster.jpgMy next adventure in Irish music was a High Kings concert as part of the Clancy Brothers Festival in Carrick on Suir in County Tipperary. I was able to meet the band before the show and talk music and golf with them. The show was amazing and having known multiple songs I really got into it.  I highly recommend that anyone who has the chance to attend one of their concerts go. They will perform at several US Irish festivals this summer.

A storyteller and bodhran player at the weekly session in Cleere's in Kilkenny. I have a feeling I know where I will be spending most Monday nights while I'm here...
