Out With the Hot, In With the Cold
Some of the hottest weather I have experienced in Ireland occurred these past two weeks, but the course has gotten through it. A change in the weather for the past few days has given the grass a rest from the heat, but there has been problems with the irrigation system causing areas to not get water. Hopefully the problem is found and corrected soon. A trusty irrigation system helps the irrigation tech sleep at night.
Last week I worked on edging some bunkers, worked a bit on the putting course, and hand watered some greens in the morning. So far this week I have been on topdressing greens, fly mowing water hazards, and checking sand depths in bunkers/moving sand around. I found topdressing greens to be easier than tees because less sand is used per shovel to get an even light covering. Topdressing takes 4 guys 4.5-5 hours, plus one guy spiking and one dragging in sand, depending on pace of play from the last golfers. I enjoyed topdressing.
