Tees and fairways are native soil, grassed with Creeping Ryegrass/Low Mow Bluegrass. Irrigation system is Toro two-wire, single row with ins and outs on greens. This position is full time and will provide an excellent opportunity to learn to manage turf through the summer stress experienced in the northeast. Assistants will gain experience with Toro Irrigation, chemical applications and calibration, crew management, disease identification as well as other aspects of golf course maintenance including working closely with the Superintendent and providing input for the success of the golf course. Assistants should adhere to professional appearance standards as member/ guest interactions are quite common and encouraged. This person will offer expertise and aid in maintenance of landscape irrigation systems where needed. Supervises and directs a changing labor force when needed (i.e. hand watering, installations, etc.). Communicates with AGCS to schedule manpower and resources with regards to irrigation needs. Advises on other irrigation systems on site (clubhouse, landscape, domestic, etc.). Keeps inventory of all irrigation parts, fittings, and accessories. Operates specialized equipment, such as trencher, skid steer, and backhoe. Reports any irregularities in course turf quality to AGCS. Participates in snow removal activities including scheduling, procedures, cleanup, preparation, and implementation. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

Purpoodock Club is a private 18-hole golf-only facility that opened in 1922 and is located just minutes from beautiful beaches, parks and downtown Portland. The course has distinctive rock outcroppings and unique fairway contours. We manage bent/poa greens and fairways, and bluegrass tees at championship levels and have recently replaced most of the maintenance fleet with a new equipment package to help in that effort. Since 2019, all the tees and bunkers on the course have been renovated. The club is investing heavily in capital improvement projects and equipment with some exciting changes happening in the years to come. This opening is available as one of our assistants is moving on to a superintendent role, the fourth assistant to do so in the last ten years.
