By Dedham Country and Polo Club, - updated March 3 - Dedham, Massachusetts
History: The Dedham Country and Polo Club came into existence in 1887 because of a merger between the Norfolk Country Club and the Dedham Polo Club. Famed golf course designer, Donald Ross designed nine holes in 1912, but the 5th green appears to be the only surviving green of his design. In 1920, the club reorganized and purchased more land and in 1923, the renowned architect Seth Raynor was hired to design 10 new holes on this land. He also revised the original 9 holes into a new layout of 8 holes. May of 1925, the course was ready for play and the Dedham Country and Polo Club had a challenging 18 holes of golf. Most recently, the club embarked on a full golf course restoration in 2017-2018 to restore it to its Raynor roots. The Club has also hosted numerous state championships and USGA qualifying events. Today, Dedham is a very family oriented, respectful, ‘amenities-diverse’ operation in a highly desirable part of the Boston suburbs. Its proximity to one of the most unique and desirable cities in the U.S. (12 miles from downtown Boston), its schools and universities, its history and recreational opportunities, its iconic sports teams and so much more…...all while retaining a more rural ‘feel’ to the club location is unique. The overall environment is highly attractive for an employee looking to be part of a team where both members and staff feel part of a larger “family” environment. Club Facts/ Features: •The Club’s key amenity is its historic Seth Raynor designed course, as well as its excellent practice facilities. •74 acres of maintained turf including Bentgrass and Poa annua playing surfaces •Racquet sports including: 8 Clay Tennis courts: (4 outdoor & 4 indoor) and 3 Paddle tennis courts •Ice skating, hockey & trapshooting •Golf course Master Plan executed in 2017-2018 which included: rebuilding 19 Greens to USGA spec rebuilding of all bunkers new irrigation system new tees fairway expansions new bridges and cart paths Duties include but are not limited to: •Overall maintenance and operations of the golf course to provide the membership and their guests with an outstanding golf experience on a daily basis •Maintenance of all golf course areas including: setup, mowing, hand-watering, small crew management etc… •Calibration, application and record keeping of fertilizers and pesticides •Involvement in Master Plan renovation projects •Irrigation installation and repair •Involvement with daily + yearly data collection and analysis

The course was designed by famed architects Harry S. Colt and Charles H. Alison. In 2005, noted golf course architect Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design, Inc. agreed to develop a long-range plan for the club. Many of Mr. Doak’s recommended changes have been incorporated in today’s course. The club’s long-range plan will serve to confirm, preserve and restore the traditional Colt and Alison heritage which makes Milwaukee Country Club’s course a truly distinguished venue. In the summer of 2020, the club continued the restoration of the golf course to the original Colt and Alison design. The project included tee and fairway redesign, bunker conversion to The Better Billy Bunker system, drainage installation, and rough renovation. Milwaukee Country Club is annually ranked among the Top 100 golf courses in the United States. Golf Magazine currently ranks Milwaukee Country Club as the #71 golf course on their Greatest in America list. The club has hosted several national events which include: 1903 Western Open, 1969 Walker Cup Matches, 1988 U.S. Senior Amateur, and 2008 U.S. Mid-Amateur. The Milwaukee Country Club resides on a 200-acre property about 10 miles north of downtown Milwaukee. Greens, tees, and fairways are predominately older cultivars of bentrgrass/poa mix. The golf course consists of a large area of highly maintained turf which includes: 5 acres of greens, 5 acres of approach/bailouts, 36 acres of fairways, and 4 acres of tees.
