It is our goal to prepare Golf Course Maintenance interns to advance in their chosen field. Interns will participate in all facets of our golf course maintenance program, including: fertilizer applications, irrigation practices, topdressing, and construction projects. Interns will have the opportunity to work on both of our championship golf courses and receive an introduction to our management plan, yearly budget, employee scheduling, and equipment maintenance. Management of small crews may also be presented in certain situations. If appropriate, there is also opportunity for exposure to our Landscape operation. Interns will be provided with a challenging position that will allow them to use some of the skills and experience gained in the classroom and previous work experience. We will guide interns to achieve any professional goals or academic requirements they would like to fulfill during their employment. We will provide honest feedback and encourage the intern to ask questions throughout their experience. A final review will be given by the Director of Agronomy at the end of the intern’s employment. On a daily basis interns will participate in all areas of preparing the golf courses for daily play. Raking bunkers, mowing of tees, fairways, rough and greens, rolling greens, and course set-up, are the basic practices that will kick off the internship. Interns will also gain experience in a variety of other maintenance practices which may include: trim work, edging, pesticide applications and topdressing. Next, interns will transition into our spray programs, and will participate in foliar fertilizer applications of fairways, tees and greens. Additionally, irrigation diagnosis and repair, as well as practices such as hand watering and syringing will be focused on during employment.

This position will give the student all the exposure they will need to become a successful Assistant Superintendent and ultimately to become a Golf Course Superintendent. The intern will report directly to the Green and Grounds Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendents. This person will aid in the direction and participation in maintaining the golf course greens, tees, fairways, and surrounding property as well as being exposed to all aspects of maintaining the golf course from course setup, pesticide applications, water management to managing small crews. You will also be exposed to golf course construction processes in regards to executing the Country Club of York's master plan developed by Golf Course Architect Andrew Green. These projects are completed by McDonald and Son's Golf Course Builders Inc. in conjunction with the CCY agronomy team. This year we will be completing an overhaul of our tee complex on hole 13. The scope of the project will be demoing the current tee box and shifting and building 3 new tee boxes along with the installation of new irrigation. The members of CCY are committed to continually improving the golf course and we are scheduled to complete at least one major project each year moving forward. This internship will give the student a great opportunity to build his or her resume.
