By Morris County Golf Club, - updated February 15 - Morristown, New Jersey
Morris County Golf Club is a classic 18 hole golf course designed by Seth Raynor. The club itself was established in 1894, with its current layout of holes being finished by Raynor around 1916. Our goal in the grounds department is to create a partnership with an individual that wants to learn more about the turf industry and the day to day needs for golf course turf managment. We intend this to be a true partnership of respect and opportunity for growth. We know an intern can become a valued part of our management team thorughout a summer season and we want to support an individual through that experience no matter what their current skills are. A summer intern can expect to learn more about applications (fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, etc.), mowing practices, course setup, tournament preparations, cultural practices, business management, project management, moisture management, and crew/team leadership. We also have a recently updated world class maintenance facility that includes renonvations thorughout our existing areas alongside brand NEW adminstration and environmental buildings. The upcoming 2024 season will be a great opportunity for any intern to dive into some golf course construction detail work. We have recently completed 3 Acres of fairway/approach expansions and will be continuing to work on those areas throughout the upcoming season. We will focus on turf health and uniformtity within those sod expansions as the summer progresses. We also will continue our work on nursery maturirty in preparation for our next phase of golf course renonvation work beginning Oct 1st, 2024. This upcoming fall's course work will include additional fairway expansions, a few complete green complex rebuilds, new bunkers, and green expansions. The preparation work this summer is vital to a successful project later this year. I am excited for what Morris County Golf Club has to offer potential interns in regards to quality of work life, hands on experience, and project management. All of our current goals and projects will be culminating in the exciting opportunity to host the 2026 NJ State Open, and we are looking for the right candidate to work alongside us towards our goals. Every season our goal for an intern is to allow freedom and flexability so they can focus in areas where they feel they need additional exposure and training. If you are looking to gain something specific out of the upcoming season please feel free to reach out and see how we could work together.

By Chevy Chase Club, - updated February 14 - Chevy Chase, Maryland
Chevy Chase Club was organized in the fall of 1892 by a group of men from the Metropolitan Club of Washington, D.C., including Francis G. Newlands. For some time, there had been a good deal of sentiment in the Metropolitan Club in favor of a country club where the growing interest in horses, sports and recreation could be pursued. The club would also serve as a social center for members and their families well-removed from the turmoil of the growing city. The club’ s first permanent location was in 1894 on a tract of land that included a pre-revolutionary frame house known as the Bradley Farmhouse. The game of golf was introduced with six holes at the club in 1895, the same year the USGA was founded. In 1897, the club was able to purchase this 9.36-acre tract on which the Bradley House was situated. Today, the club offers an 18-hole golf course, golf practice facility, seventeen outdoor tennis courts, four indoor tennis courts, seven paddle tennis courts, a fitness facility, three swimming pools, eight lanes of duckpin bowling, an outdoor ice rink, an eighteen-room guest house, a nature trail and greenhouses. Food and beverage facilities include three clubhouse dining rooms, full banquet facilities, two seasonal sports canteens and a casual dining Winter Center. The club first introduced golf in 1895 with just 6 holes, which slowly expanded to 9 holes. In 1909, and very early in his career, Donald Ross expanded the existing 9 holes to 18 holes. In 1924 the firm of Colt & Alison re-designed the existing Donald Ross course to the current routing that exists today, with some modifications made by various architects throughout the years. Beginning in July, the club will close to commence a historic golf course renovation with golf course architect Andrew Green. Interns will play an integral role during the renovation.
