The Country Club of Buffalo was established in 1889 with the current Donald Ross golf course opening in 1926. The club has a storied golf history and has been the host of: 1912 U.S Open, 1931 U.S Women's Amateur Championship, 1950 Curtis Cup, and the 1962 U.S. Girls Junior Championship.  The club recently completed a golf course renovation which consisted of rebuilding 114 bunkers, restoring lost fairway and green areas, and the implementation of a master tree plan. The club consists of an 18-hole golf course with practice facilities, four tennis courts, two platform tennis courts, pool, and an established shooting program with novice, trap, skeet, five-stand, and brushwalk fields.  

The par-70 parkland style golf course sits at 6,850 yards from the back tees and hosts approximately 15,500 rounds annually. The effective golf season extends from May 1st to September 31st and hosts only two outside golf events annually.  

The second assistant is an entry-level assistant position that will be involved in all facets of golf course management including; pest management, record keeping, staff training, water management, irrigation repair, and project management. The candidate will help provide supervision, support, and leadership to a staff of over 35 team members and assist the superintendent and other assistants with all daily operations.  This is a full-time, year-round position with typically 10-30 hours of overtime available per week. 

 

 

Educational Requirements

A Certificate, Associates, or Bachelors degree in Turfgrass Management or a related field is required.

Experience Requirements

At least one year golf course management experience is required. Water management and pest management experience is preferred. Knowledge of the game of golf is also preferred.

Special Requirements

Must have the ability to obtain a NYS pesticide applicator license within 60 days of employment.
