Merion Golf Club is looking for an Assistant-in-Training Golf Course Superintendent. The AIT reports directly to the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and aids in the direction and participation in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths.
Merion Golf Club is private golf club in Ardmore, PA, established in 1896.The club has hosted more USGA championships than any other golf course in America and is home to some of history’s greatest golf moments.
Merion’s historic East Course has been recently ranked 6th in the country, and 12th in the world while Merion’s West Course has become one of Philadelphia's premier golf courses and continues to improve every year. The West will be Merion’s only course open this year, due to a total restoration project on the East Course.
1.Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment.
2.Instructs equipment operations on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment
3.Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment
4.Ensures cleanliness and workmanship of pesticide equipment, proper recordkeeping and training of Interns.
5.Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
6.Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
7.Assists as project foreman.
8.Development of staff for career advancement.
9.Perform all other tasks and duties assigned by the supervisor.
1.Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, hand watering and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
2.Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.
3.Requires current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
4.Ability to follow oral and written directions.
1.Has the ability to lift products/equipment up to 50 lbs above shoulders
2.Has the ability to walk at a pace of 2.5 miles / hour operation equipment continually for a period of 3-5 hours.
1.All work is performed outdoors, rain or shine.
2.Exposure to extreme heat and bitter cold temperatures.
