Duties & Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance, reconstruction, fertilization and pesticide applications on athletic fields.Task to include, but not limited to:Field layout, set up and striping, grooming of infields, mound and plate repair, top -dressing, aeration, seeding, sodding, turf applications and detail mowing. Also responsible for synthetic field grooming and maintenance.Perform basic preventative maintenance on all equipment which you use.
Experience:One year in a similar position or three plus years in the turf or landscape construction industry with a passion to learn and strive for perfection.
Physical:Ability to frequently lift 50 or more pounds.Stand or walk for 8 or more hours. Ability to bend, kneel and squat/crouching for long duration.Twisting, pushing and pulling while using hand tools. Sitting as needed to operate trucks, tractors and other equipment as needed.Ability to use mechanic’s tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches.
Driver’s License:Clean New Jersey Motor Vehicle license with the ability to pass the required DOT physical.Class B CDL a plus.
Work Hours:Vary by project and season of the year.Generally; 7:00 am – 3:30 pm plus overtime as required.Weekend work as required.
Environmental and Safety Hazards:Work predominately outdoors in all climate conditions, hot, cold, rain etc.Exposure to noise of equipment, dust and toxic chemicals.Individual should be familiar with PPE.
Knowledge needed:General knowledge of athletic field construction, field dimensions and layout.Basic math and geometry.A mechanical aptitude.Ability to operate: tractors, aerators, Line/paint sprayers, infield groomers, skid-steer loaders and a variety of other powered equipment.A working knowledge of lasers and transits.A basic understanding of turf care including soils, nutrients and pests that may impact athletic fields.Competence with computer software such as MS Office.
Licenses:Possess or ability to obtain the following licenses:NJ Pesticide operator or applicator in the categories required to perform your job duties.NJ PROFACT fertilizer applicator licenses.
