Bethesda Country Club is an 18-Hole Private Country Club located outside of Washington DC. Bethesda consists of new 007 bentgrass greens, ryegrass fairways, bentgrass tees, and a stand of mixed cool season rough. The membership has approved the installation of a new Toro, HDPE irrigation system to be installed in Fall/Winter of 2019-2020. The club has also embarked on a master plan to renovate tees and bunkers in the near future.
Bethesda Country Club provides many challenges that will provide a solid foundation for years to come as the successful candidates navigates his/her career. These challenges include major shade issues throughout the entire property, maturation of new sodded 007 greens, implementation of a new irrigation installation, major drainage issues, traffic, and high expectations on ryegrass fairways. The successful candidate will gain hands on experience with major in-house drainage projects, water management, staff management, budgeting, master plan implementation, and small renovation projects.
The second assistant will be asked to work alongside the other assistant superintendents to manage day to day golf course and ground maintenance. He/she will be expected to assist with the application of chemicals and fertilizers when scheduled. The successful candidate will also participate in the implementation of a specific water management plan on the ryegrass fairways and putting greens throughout the summer.
The second assistant will be asked to think on their feet and outside the box on a daily basis. Their input and feedback will not only be encouraged but required. Improving the golf course and providing the best possible conditions takes a team effort. He/She will be asked to be a strong and determined leader who affects the staff and golf course in a positive manner.
This is an entry level position. The successful candidate will be asked to work hands on with the entire grounds crew. They will report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. In his absence, they will report to the Assistant Superintendents.
Two or Four Year degree
Minimum requirement: 0-2 years as an AIT or second assistant, 1 internship
