The Country Club of York is looking for a Lead Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. The lead assistant reports directly to the Green and Grounds Superintendent and aids in the direction and participation in the maintenance of the golf course and surrounding property.
CCY is private golf club in York, PA, established in 1899. The golf course was designed by world renowned architect Donald Ross in 1926.The club has hosted the 1999 U.S. Junior Amateur and is inquiring about another USGA event in the future.Over the last six years, in conjunction with a strong membership and a dynamic leader-ship team, the course has excelled through constructive change in addition to welcoming the best of the Pennsylvania Golf Association and the Golf Association of Philadelphia.
The Club is also in the process of completing a master plan developed by architect Andrew Green.This plan involves completing at least one major project every fall and this years project will be focused on our second green complex. We will be expanding the green back to Donald Ross's original design with a total irrigation design, bunker reconstruction and fairway expansion. These projects will be completed by McDonald and Son's along with our agronomy team assisting in some capacity. We will also be completing a major overhaul of our driving range tee and target greens this upcoming Spring.This will complete Andrew Greens and the memberships vision of the practice facility which will be comprised of a short game practice area and a wedge range which was completed in 2015.
The Lead Assistant needs to be a self-starter with a good work ethic and stable work history.
Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways.
Develops and schedules the daily assignments and leads the crew in performing these tasks and the use of the equipment.
Keeps records of all daily job assignments.
Responsible for hiring and training of staff.
Instructs greens staff on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment
Must be proficient in calibration of spreaders and sprayers and responsible for proper application practices and record keeping.
Supervises pesticide and fertilizer applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment
Ensures cleanliness and workmanship of pesticide equipment, proper record keeping and training of Interns.
Attends all green committee meetings
Assumes role of Superintendent in his absence
Must have a two or four year degree in Turfgrass management or related field
3-5 years’ experience as an assistant golf course superintendent. Construction project experience recommended but not necessary.
Hard working and prompt.
Must work well with others.
Self motivated and work with a sense of urgency.
Knowledge of latest equipment and products.
Attention to detail.
