Assistant-in-Training

By The International Golf Club, Bolton, Massachusetts,

Gregory Fullam, 159 Ballville Road, Bolton, Massachusetts, 01740, Telephone: 978-779-1394

The International is a 45-hole golfing facility with two private championship courses and a 9-hole public golf course. The Oaks course opened in 2001 designed by Tom Fazio featuring all bentgrass playing surfaces and L93 USGA spec. greens. The Pines originally built in 1901 started as a 9-hole course and in 1954 Geoffrey Cornish with input from Francis Ouimet designed the regulation course as it exists today. In 1972 Robert Trent Jones was contracted to update and modify many of the greens and bunker complexes. Today with the signature “Tiger Tees” the Pines tops out at 8,325 yards and is rated the longest and toughest course in America. The Pines has the typical older course mixture of annual bluegrass/bentrass on all playing surfaces with “push up” constructed greens. Twin Springs is our 9-hole pubic course that provides families with an affordable and fun experience for any skill level and is a nice complement to our private championship courses.

With such a diverse set of growing environments, irrigation systems, grass species etc. on one property we can provide our aspiring turf managers with a unique opportunity to learn and develop all the skills necessary to become successful in this industry. Our goal is to prepare all our employees to advance professionally whether within our organization or at another facility.

Our turf management team consists of a course Superintendent on both the Pines and the Oaks as well as an Assistant under them all reporting to the Director of Golf Courses and Grounds. We strongly encourage promoting from within and look to always groom staff to be ready for the next step in their career.

Along with our unique learning environment we also have the luxury of a modern maintenance facility complete with assistant’s office and break room, a large fleet of new leased TORO equipment as well as a brand-new utility cart package every five years. The ownership is very supportive of our department and committed to providing us with the tools we need to succeed.
