Assistant Superintendent

Menlo Country Club is a member-owned, full-service country club governed by a seven-member Board of Directors and operates under the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer concept. Club amenities include a historic clubhouse overlooking the golf course, four tennis courts, a swimming pool and overnight accommodations.  The Club recently began construction on a new, state-of-the-art clubhouse and fitness facility and is currently renovating the driving range. The Club’s 18 holes of golf feature a new design by Kyle Phillips opened in July 2014 and host approximately 24,000 rounds annually.  The parkland style golf course features bentgrass greens and ryegrass tees fairways and approaches. Fescue and native areas are featured in the rough.

The Assistant Superintendent works with the First Assistant Superintendent and reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent.  This position provides a unique opportunity to build a strong culture within our golf maintenance team.  The successful candidate will be a positive leader, motivator, and will act as a mentor to our team.  The position will provide an opportunity to learn how to effectively manage pure bentgrass greens and sand-capped rye grass fairways.  The ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.       

Educational Requirements

•Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is required
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school is preferred
• Suitable courses of study: Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture or related field

Experience Requirements

Successful Candidates Will Possess:
• A minimum of 2 years of golf maintenance experience

• Desire to become a Golf Course Superintendent
• Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills

•Self-starter who leads by example
• Irrigation experience, including troubleshooting, repairs, programming, watering
• Experience calibrating, and applying, and monitoring chemical and fertilizer applications
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to operate general golf course maintenance equipment

Special Requirements

Spanish speaking preferred

Experience with Toro Lynx irrigation operating system preferred

Must be able to attain California QAL/QAC within 90-days of employment
