The Assistant Superintendent at Summitpointe Golf Club reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. This position provides a unique opportunity to build a strong culture within our golf maintenance team. The successful candidate will be a positive leader, motivator, and will act as a mentor to our team. The position will provide an opportunity to learn how to effectively manage a growing team with high standards of maintenance and innovation of new projects.
Assists the Superintendent in overall maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (eg. Fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure high quality playing conditions
Supervises personnel and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, bunkers, fairways, and cart paths.
Ensures adherence to golf course superintendent budget and capital plans.
Supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment
May serve in Superintendent capacity during absence.
A working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team.
Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members.
Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is required.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school is preferred.
Suitable courses of study: Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture or related field.
A minimum of 2 years of golf maintenance experience.
Desire to become a Golf Course Superintendent.
Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills.
Self-starter who leads by example.
Irrigation experience, including troubleshooting, repairs, programming, watering.
Experience calibrating, and applying, and monitoring chemical and fertilizer applications.
Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
Ability to operate general golf course maintenance equipment.
Experience with Toro Lynx irrigation operating system preferred.
Must be able to attain California QAL/QAC within 90-days of employment.
