Assistant Superintendent

Position Overview

The Assistant Superintendent at Summitpointe Golf Club will report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. This position provides a unique opportunity to build a strong culture within our golf maintenance team. The successful candidate will be a positive leader, motivator, and will act as a mentor to our team. The position will provide an opportunity to learn how to effectively manage a growing team with high standards of maintenance and innovation of new projects. 


  • Assists the Superintendent in overall maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (eg. Fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure high quality playing conditions
  • Supervises personnel and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, bunkers, fairways, and cart paths. 
  • Ensures adherence to golf course superintendent budget and capital plans.
  • Supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment 
  • May serve in Superintendent capacity during absence.
  • A working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. 
  • Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members.

Educational Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school is preferred. 
  • Suitable courses of study: Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture or related field.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of golf maintenance experience. 
  • Desire to become a Golf Course Superintendent. 
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Self-starter who leads by example. 
  • Irrigation experience, including troubleshooting, repairs, programming, watering. 
  • Experience calibrating, and applying, and monitoring chemical and fertilizer applications. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus. 
  • Ability to operate general golf course maintenance equipment. 
  • Experience with Toro Lynx irrigation operating system preferred. 
  • Must be able to attain California QAL/QAC within 90-days of employment.
