Seasonal Intern

Farm Neck Golf Club is a semi-private golf club set in Oak Bluffs on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. The club was founded in 1979 and designed by Geoffrey Cornish. Farm Neck has continually been ranked and considered to be one of the “premiere golf experiences in the Northeast” by Golf Digest, GolfWeek, and various other publications. Farm Neck is a unique club where the membership allows the public full access to experience the golf course, facilities, and property it sits on. The club encourages a “non-exclusive” atmosphere for all to enjoy. Whether you are a former president, celebrity, professional athlete, local plumber, or new to the game all are welcome here.

At Farm Neck instead of a top-down approach we are more circular in our management style. We have built a culture to encourage involvement from all of our team members. This further increases the teamwork between our staff members and efficiency of the operation. Daily meetings are held between the Superintendent, Assistants, Interns, and other managerial staff to discuss key take aways from the day and strategies to accomplish our weekly goals.

Responsibilities Intern can expect to perform and learn:

  • Operation of all equipment
  • Irrigation troubleshooting
  • Designing and setting irrigation cycles
  • Moisture management
  • Pest identification and monitoring
  • Sprayer and spreader calibration
  • Building a spray program
  • Implementing cultural practice programs (Verticutting, Topdressing, Aeration, etc.)
  • Leading small projects
  • Equipment repair and maintenance with Head Equipment Technician
  • Staff job assignments and leading operation for a week
  • How to provide high end championship conditions while balancing 250+ rounds per day during the peak season

In the Fall of 2023, the Club is set to begin a full golf course renovation designed by Mark Mungeam. This includes but not limited to new tee boxes, fairway recontouring, new bunkers with Better Billy Bunker Liner, native grass establishment, pond/ocean erosion control, tree clearing, irrigation installation, and greens reconstruction. Intern will be exposed to the coordination and preparation of carrying out a large-scale golf course renovation on an island.
