Bill Scheer, 5295 Broadway Terrace, Oakland, California, 94618, Telephone: 510-653-6789

Overview: The 2nd Assistant Superintendent will join our team of turf professionals and will work alongside the Superintendent and Lead Assistant to provide exceptional year around conditions for members and guests. The 2nd Assistant will be exposed to all aspects of golf course management and leadership at one of California’s premier private county clubs. Claremont Country Club was established in 1897 and moved to its current location in 1903 where James “Pop” Smith laid out the original course. In the late 20’s, Alister MacKenzie and Robert Hunter renovated the course to its current routing. Over the last 15 years, using a 1930 aerial photo, the club has worked with Architect Jim Urbina to restore the MacKenzie / Hunter greens, bunkers and characteristics helping to gain entry into the MacKenzie Society of golf courses. Over the next few years, the club will continue work to restore the natural look and playability of the course using sustainable maintenance practices, organic fertilizer programs and chemical and water use reduction techniques. Our membership is a wonderful and supportive group. We believe strongly in maintaining a healthy work / life balance.
