Established in 1918, Northmoor Country Club is a family-oriented private club that has taken great strides to provide members and guests with uniquely friendly, uncompromisingly satisfying experiences with each visit. Northmoor features 27 holes of golf, practice center, an excellent racquet program, platform tennis, a Junior Olympic sized pool and offers a wide range of dining and entertaining options.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, eager to learn, works well in a team setting and is not afraid to make mistakes. Personality and character traits are more important than tactical abilities. We will help you advance in every facet of the golf course industry if they are willing to make the effort to learn and get out of their comfort zone. The individual should have an overarching goal of someday becoming an Assistant or a Superintendent and should be ambitious and energetic enough to work to earn that.
Of the 27 holes at Northmoor, 18 of them (the Red and Blue Courses) are USGA spec greens built in 2012 and 2014 grassed to A4 bentgrass with Subair installed while the other (White 9) are modified pushup greens with L-93 bentgrass.
The White 9 is going under a major renovation led by Tyler Rae starting next fall centered around infrastructural improvements to the way the way the course drains. A new irrigation pond will be built along with new tees, greens, fairways, Better Billy Bunkers and the removal of several hundred trees.
The greens on the Red and Blue Courses have a significant black layer issue and our first area of focus will be remediating that problem and getting the greens to play firm again. Although this will take several years to accomplish, it will provide great insight into a lot of different cultural practices that will be utilized to combat black layer.
Between a large-scale renovation, greens with different soil types, black layer, a full country club setting, and a membership who desires a firm and fast course through the green, this is going to be a phenomenal place to learn and grow.
I do not hold anything back from those who seek to learn. On rainy days you can expect be part of short educational meetings where I will share the agronomic calendar, spray schedules, budgets, contracts, proposals and anything else there is a desire to learn about. Holding these things back doesn’t help you, me or the Club!
Associate, Certificate, two- or four-year degree in related field.
1-2 years on a golf course. Prior internship experience preferred. As stated, it’s more about the person than their experiences. If you are willing to come to work everyday with a good attitude and work as part of a team, you will be successful here.
Recently renovated on-site housing, potential for performance bonus, uniforms, meals, health/dental/vision, 401(k), vacation, golf privileges, volunteer experience at local or national tournaments, and all dues paid for associations, work:life balance. Lake Michigan is less than a mile away, and several downtown areas are within walking distance from the course.
