Head Equipment Technician/Manager – Ballyhack Golf Club


Located in Roanoke, Virginia, Ballyhack's construction started in 2007 and was completed in 2009.  The course is designed by Lester George and was constructed by Landscapes Unlimited.  The course is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains which offer breath taking views. The course sits on approximately 200 Acres and provides a Scottish Links-style golf course feel.  The course consists of 42 Acres of 007 Bentgrass Fairways, 3.5 Acres of 007 Bentgrass Tees, and 4.5 Acres of Tyee Bentgrass Greens.  The Rough is Kentucky Bluegrass/Turf Type Tall Fescue blend and there is numerous acres of Fine Fescue Natives.  The Agronomy Facility was constructed in 2018 and opened in Jan 2019.  Ballyhack has a fleet of John Deere equipment that is almost 3 years old and will be replaced in 2022.  The facility has Bernhard grinders, and they were replaced in 2019.  Ballyhack currently holds a 2021 Golf Digest ranking of #175 in the US and has gained many accolades in the state of Virginia as one of the best in the state.  Ballyhack became part of the Dormie Network in 2016 and has steadily risen in the rankings.

Educational Requirements


- Technician Certifications are a plus

- GCSAA Affiliates are a bonus

- Proven record of continuing Education

Experience Requirements


- Minimum of 3-5 years as a Golf Equipment Technician

- Hosted PGA or USGA Tournaments is a plus

- Bernhard Grinders that are only 2 year old - top of the line

- Positive Attitude with a great work ethic

-Ability to train and mentor young turf minds about the technical needs in equipment

- Organization and record keeping is a must

- Experience with Diesel and small engine required

- Fabricating and welding experience is a plus

- Ability to maintain a top 200 ranked golf club in the US and potentially improve that

- Limble Asset Management system experience is a plus

Special Requirements


- Maintain Bentgrass in Transition area/Experience with weather in Southwest Virginia area is a plus

- Quality Leadership and mentoring assistants for further career development

- Passionate, Committed, and team-oriented attitude

- Strong Budgeting skills 

- Computer skills needed: Excel/Word/Limble/etc.

- Great relationship with industry vendors and partners

- Maintaining consistent playing conditions

- Communication between all levels of operations, along with Dormie Network Executive Team and membership

-Organization and record keeping

- Proven leadership and rational decision making


- Understanding the game of golf

- Strong character and integrity

- Honesty and forth coming with information/humility and ability to ask for help

-Consistent checking mower heights and cuts

-Service record keeping

- Preventative Maintenance checklist and records
