Sports Turf Manager


Hummer Turfgrass Systems is a leader in natural grass sports field construction, renovation, and maintenance.  We pride ourselves on our 50-year history of service to the industry while also staying at the forefront of technology and equipment.  We are seeking multiple Sports Field Crew Member to join our growing team.  

As a member of our team, you will work on natural grass sports field projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic.  Most of our work is within 2-3 hours of Lancaster, working on sports fields (municipal, high school, college/university and professional). 

You will work as a part of a team to complete the projects at a high level of quality with working with excavation and turf equipment as well as hand tools.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary - $45,000 to $70,000 (pay rate is hourly in a nine-month season) 

We offer benefits including paid time off, overtime after 8 hours daily, health insurance and 401K with match. 

The majority of the work is Monday through Friday. Occasionally we must complete work on Saturday due to weather

Preferred Qualifications

  • A background in a related field such as excavating, landscaping, sports turf, or golf landscape or irrigation is a great starting point for this position but not required. 
  • High school or GED Certificate
  • We will train candidates that show a willingness to learn.
  • Working as a part of a team 
  • Willingness to take direction and learn new skills

Responsibilities / Duties

  • Knowledge and experience on equipment is desired but not required
  • Understanding of basic hand tools
  • Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
  • Operate vehicles or powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, or pruning saws.
  • Water lawns, trees, or plants, using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans.
  • Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws.
  • Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
  • Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers or foliage.
  • Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or edgers.
  • Rake, mulch, and compost leaves.
  • Plan or cultivate athletic fields or golf courses
  • Care for natural turf fields, making sure the underlying soil has the required composition to allow proper drainage and to support the grasses.
  • Haul or spread topsoil or spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place.
