The Country Club of York is looking for an Assistant-in-Training. The AIT reports directly to Green and Grounds Superintendent and the Assistant Golf Course Superintendents. This person aids in the direction and participation in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and irrigation system.
Country Club of York is private golf club located in York, PA and was established in 1899. The club has hosted the 1999 U.S. Junior Amateur, the Pennsylvania State Open along with many qualifying events. We will be hosting the 2023 Pennsylvania State Open in August. We are currently inquiring about another USGA event in the future.Country Club of York is in the process of working on a master plan with golf course architect Andrew Green and this plan involves completing one major project every fall from the master plan.

Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment.
Instructs equipment operations on the proper operation and care of mowing and other equipment
Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment
Ensures cleanliness and workmanship of pesticide equipment, proper record keeping and training of Interns.
Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
Assists as project foreman.
Development of staff for career advancement.
Perform all other tasks and duties assigned by the supervisor.
The AIT supervises: greens keepers and greens department Interns
Must have a two or four year degree or certificate in Turfgrass management or related field
Golf course experience preferred but not mandatory. We have hired assistants from the sports turf industry and we are willing to work with and train to help with the adjustment to the golf industry.
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, hand watering and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.
Requires current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator (within 90 days of hire).
Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Has the ability to lift products/equipment up to 50 lbs. above shoulders
Has the ability to walk at a pace of 2.5 miles / hour operation equipment continually for a period of 3-5 hours.
