The Assistant-in-Training oversees the majority of the daily operations under the direction of the Assistant Superintendents and the Director of Golf Course Maintenance.
·Schedule, train, supervise and motivate a 26 man crew under the direction of theAssistant Superintendents & the Director of Golf Course Maintenance.
·Operates, adjusts and repairs irrigation system.
·Oversees moisture management of golf course with the emphases on putting greens.
·Inspects course daily to evaluate and recommend improvements.
·Oversees application of fertilizers and pesticides as well as maintaining accurate application records.
·Establishes short-term and long-term goals for the Director of GCM.
·Works closely with Director of GCM to implement the department’s safety program.
·Communicates as necessary with the Golf Professionals relating to on-course activities.
·Assists in coordinating work with outside contractors.
·Conducts other appropriate tasks following the job description and as assigned by the Director of GCM.
· Prefer degree in agronomy/horticulture/plant/soil science or related field, but all experienced candidates will be considered.
Prefer 3-5 years of golf coursemaintenance experience
· Prefer a Degree in agronomy/horticulture/plant/soil science or related field.
·Prefer 3-5 years of golf course maintenance experience.
·Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to direct, motivate and evaluate team members. Spanish speaking would be helpful.
·Strong problem solving skills with ability to create timely solutions in a dynamic work environment.
·Desire to grow as a turf grass manager in order to advance in the turf management industry.
·Ability to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
·Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
·Possess California pesticide applicators license or have the ability to do so within 6-months of hire date.
·Must have knowledgeable computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
·Valid driver’s license.
