The Lead Mechanic Technician reports directly to the Equipment Manager and corresponds with the Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents on a daily basis. The Lead Mechanic Technician runs the day-to-day repairs and maintenance operations in the shop and assists the reel grinding and preventative maintenance technicians as needed. The Lead Mechanic Technician works on the golf course equipment; changing fluids and filters as well as a diverse range of repairs while also assisting and overseeing other shop personnel with repairs.


·         Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment.

·         Changes oil and filters when needed.

·         Performs repairs on four cycle gas and diesel engines.

·         Performs repairs on two cycle equipment as needed.

·         Trains, mentors and instructs other technicians on the maintenance and diagnosis of all equipment.

·         Assists in scheduling and organizing daily, weekly and monthly repair and maintenance schedules.

·         Adheres to all health, safety, and environmental regulations (proper disposal of waste oils, tires, etc.)

·         Greases equipment.

·         Changes tires.

·         Assists the reel tech when checking reels for quality and height of cut.

·         Maintains a clean work area.

·         Keeps detailed records of work performed.

·         Helps operators when called upon with different facets of the equipment. 


·         Position requires the individual to maintain flexible availability, will work weekends and holidays.

·         Must have viable means of transportation to work.

·         Consistently follows safety guidelines and procedures.  


·         High school diploma or GED equivalent, preferred.

·         Minimum of five (5) years of golf maintenance shop management experience, required. 

·         Must have valid driver’s license.

·         Working knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in golf course equipment repair and grounds, required.

·         Ability to safely operate golf course mowers, tractors and other equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.

·         Will work outdoors and may be exposed to wet and/or hot conditions.

·         Must have a basic knowledge of golf course maintenance or mechanic shop operations.

·         Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.

·         Moderate noise environment.

·         Move or lift objects up to 60 pounds.

·         Must be able to climb, crawl, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push or pull.

·         Communication, to include: reading, hearing, and talking with fellow employees.
