2nd Assistant Superintendent

We are looking for a highly motivated individual that under the Golf Course Superintendent’s direction will repair and adjust irrigation. Will be responsible for chemical and fertilizer applications. Will distribute and disseminate all important and necessary information and jobs during morning meetings with crew. Spring Run Golf Club just completed a no-till renovation, which entailed switching to Bimini Bermuda grass. We maintain all Toro Equipment.

Position Type:
Full Time, rotating weekends required

 

Position Duties (not limited to):

    Irrigation/Spray Technician Supervision

  • Oversee that all Irrigation repairs and adjustments will be done, recorded and maintained
  • All recommendations for timing and irrigation adjustments will be made daily to Superintendent or 1st Assist. Superintendent
  • All inventory and parts needed for completion of a job will be maintained and ordered regularly so that parts are on hand to fix an issue as it arises. This will be done weekly
  • Ensure all equipment operates efficiently and safely at all times
  • Responsible for monitoring the chemical and fertilizer inventory
  • Responsible for keeping the chemical and fertilizer room clean and organized at all times
  • Responsible for properly storing and putting away in their correct locations all chemical and fertilizer orders on day of delivery
  • Monitor all employees that are required to have access to the chemical and fertilizer rooms and ensure that they are properly mixing chemicals and using all appropriate PPE
  • Participate in safety training

     Crew Management/Supervision

  • 2nd Superintendent will have the power to delegate and give direction to the crew
  • Authority to make decisions and adjustments while always deferring to a superior if one is present
  • Must act professionally and respectfully to all parties involved
  • Will perform the morning meetings and distribute and disseminate all important and necessary information and jobs.
  • Will report directly to the 1st Assist. Superintendent and help with the planning and implementation of the plans and projects given to the 1st Assist. by the Superintendent
  • Needs demonstrated ability to supervise staff to achieve departmental goals and objectives

Educational Requirements

 

Desired Skills (non-mandatory):

  • Bilingual English/Spanish 
  • Computer Skills – Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Associates Degree or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License

Experience Requirements

Position Skill Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain a Pesticide License within 180 days
  • Must show the initiative to remain current within a specialized industry
  • Must possess the ability to recommend solutions for increased efficiency precipitating cost saving solutions
  • Daily accomplishment of a clean, healthy and safe working environment, one that abides by the department standards, OSHA, and all local authority standards
  • Exposure to environmental elements associated with golf course management operations
  • Support and implement equipment work force training of pesticide related awareness associated with golf course maintenance operations
  • Requires the individual to maintain flexible availability, will work weekends and holidays, may be required to return to job site at odd hours under emergency situations
  • Physical demands are required for this position and might include, but are not limited to:
    • Regular Heavy lifting up to 50 pounds
    • Noise level in work environment is usually moderate
    • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions including sun, rain, cold
    • Repetitive movement- standing, walking, twisting, turning, bending squatting, stooping, talking, writing, and typing
