By Argyle Country Club,
Silver Spring, Maryland,
- updated January 12
Argyle Country Club is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Superintendent to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for either a recent graduate or more seasoned Assistant to gain experience with ryegrass fairways and poa/bent pushup greens in the Mid-Atlantic and be heavily involved in golf course improvements.
The Club is making significant investments to the golf course, having recently purchased a new equipment fleet. A full course irrigation installation will be complete this winter. The irrigation system represents the first stage of executing our master plan which includes re-grassing fairways to Iron Cutter bermudagrass in summer 2024, bunker renovations, tee & green surround improvements, and cart path upgrades.
Founded in Washington D.C. in 1921, Argyle moved to its current location in Silver Spring, MD in 1945. The course was designed by Perc LeDuc, then a member of the Club. Argyle is known for having some of the area’s top golfers who consistently compete in state and national amateur championships. Argyle regularly host MSGA events including the Maryland State Amateur Championship in 2022 and qualifying tournaments for USGA championships, including final qualifying for the 2022 US Women's Senior Amateur.
The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Director and will be involved in all aspects of the Greens & Grounds operation including daily golf course maintenance, water management, pesticide and fertilizer applications, clubhouse grounds maintenance, budgeting, and project management.
Developing a work-life balance is important to the sustained success of our operation. Although long hours will be required during the growing season, Assistants will have three day weekends every other week as the golf schedule allows. Those currently in turf school that expect to graduate in Spring 2023 are encouraged to apply.
