Assistant Superintendent


               Chester Valley Golf Club is looking to onboard a career-oriented Assistant Superintendent for the 2023 season.  Our program is open to working with the individual on a start date that works best for them.  We pride ourselves on being a teaching-oriented club that will set our staff up to achieve their individual career goals.  Below is an overview of the position.  Feel free to reach out to our current management staff listed below about their experiences at Chester Valley.  Please email dmohler@cvgc.org or call Derek Mohler (Golf Course Superintendent) at (717) 823-0332 if interested in the position. 

Position Overview:

o   Management

  •   Develop weekly task schedules
  •   Management of staff and small crews for on course projects
  •   Work directly with Assistants and Superintendent

o   Irrigation

  •   Troubleshooting of 20+ year old Rain Bird Irrigation System
  •   New Rain Bird irrigation system installation 2024/25
  •   Work w/ Hydro Designs and construction company on planning/ preparations
  •   Overview and usage of Rain Bird Irrigation Central to setup/ manage irrigation
  •   Water management techniques/ philosophy

o   Integrated Pest Management

  •   Calibration of sprayers/ spreaders
  •   Proper spraying/ fertilization techniques
  •   Creation and execution of pesticide program
  •   Scouting for disease/pests

o   Financials/ Budget/ Forecasting

  •   Review operating and capital budgets w/ management staff
  •   Directly involved with early order of pesticides/ fertilizer
  •   Work with green committee and architect Jim Nagle of Forse Design to complete Long Range Improvement Plan including new six-hole short course
  •   Attend green committee meetings

Educational Requirements

Candidate should at minimum be in pursuit or interested in a degree in turfgrass science or related field.  

Experience Requirements

Previous golf course experience preferred but not required.

Individual should have a positive attitude and view position in a career-oriented manner.
