2nd Assistant Superintendent
Brae Burn Country Club is a private, 27-hole facility. Founded in 1897, Brae Burn is one of the oldest golf clubs in the United States and has established itself as one of the most prestigious clubs in the Northeast. Designed by storied architect Donald Ross, Brae Burn has played host to 7 Major Tournaments including the US Open, US Amateur, the Curtis Cup, and US Women’s Amateur, along with numerous regional and local championships.
Most recently, the USGA has announced Brae Burn will Host the 2024 US Women’s Mid-Amateur and the 2028 US Women’s Amateur. In addition, Brae Burn has embarked on a new master plan with Architect, Tyler Rae. The first-phase of this project will commence in October 2023. The recent news has put an emphasis on building a career-oriented team that is driven to provide world-class conditions. It also presents a great opportunity for the chosen candidate(s) to build vital experience in both tournament preparation along with a significant exposure to golf course construction at an historic venue.
The Assistant Superintendent will play an integral role within the grounds department. He or she will work hand in hand with the Superintendent and other Assistants to develop and execute agronomic programs to provide the membership of Brae Burn with high caliber conditions. The Assistant Superintendent will also be vital in the preparation for the upcoming USGA events and play integral role during Master Plan implementation.
The Assistant Superintendent will be relied on heavily to train, motivate, and setting the standard for the rest of the team. The Assistant Superintendent will be presented with opportunities to attend and participate in greens committee meetings, Master planning along with volunteering at professional tournaments across the nation. Individual(s) chosen should know that Brae Burn Country Club is focused on training and further developing the necessary skill set for their Assistant Superintendents and our committed to facilitating the next steps in their career.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Supervisory Tasks/Crew Management, Delegation, Scheduling
· Record Keeping
· Chemical/Fertilizer applications and calibration
· Hand Watering
· Irrigation Troubleshooting
Educational Requirements
Preferred Agronomy/Turf Management Degree, or Certificate in Turf Management
Consideration will be made with Quality Employment History
Experience Requirements
Prefer minimum of 3 years with golf course experience
Special Requirements
Individual who possesses a positive attitude, passion for the turf industry, a strong desire to learn and grow as a professional. The chosen individual(s) need to be self motivating and career-oriented. Candidate(s) must have the ability and desire be a team player within the staff at Brae Burn Country Club.
