Meadow Brook Golf Club, a private country club in Reading, Massachusetts, is seeking a dedicated, motivated and team-oriented individual for the position of “Assistant Superintendent”. Meadow Brook Golf Club, established in 1898, is a private, 9-hole facility designed by Alexander Findley. The club completed construction of a new state of the art maintenance facility in 2011 as well as completing a full irrigation system installation in 2006 (Toro SitePro Central Control System) and a new clubhouse in the spring of 2022. Meadow Brook is a family oriented club offering a full palate of activities including, golf, swim and tennis. . The club has hired golf course designer Ron Forse and is in the early stages of a master plan.
The Assistant Superintendent's duties include: planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways, schedules work, supervises the employees and the use of the equipment, Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment, performs fertilizer and pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment, supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of irrigation pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems, performs watering of all turf and landscaped areas, assists in personnel management, operates all equipment and performs all routine maintenance tasks on the golf course and grounds, performs snow removal duties, performs routine course setup such as tee markers, trash and cups, operates chainsaws and performs tree removal/maintenance duties, assists the Equipment Manager, performs reel and bed knife grinding duties typically during the winter months, leads small crew projects and performs other duties as directed by the superintendent.
Typical schedule will be an average of 40-45 hours in the winter months and 40-50 hours during the golf season.
Winter School Certificate, 2-4 year turf degree is preferred.
Internship or employment at previous golf club/course a must.
Applicants must be self-motivated, assertive, goal oriented individuals who show great attention to detail, are effective communicators, and are eager to develop and advance professionally as turfgrass managers. The appropriate candidate will be self-motivated, well organized, dedicated; detail oriented and appreciates the importance of working in a team environment. Must have the ability to lift, push or pull up to 50lbs on a consistent basis. Reliable transportation is a must. Must have or able to obtain a Massachusetts pesticide applicator license.
