Equipment/Shop Manager

The Equipment Mechanic is based out of the Toronto Blue Jays’ Spring Training Facilities in Dunedin, Florida. The Equipment Mechanic will perform work to keep fleet machines, mechanical equipment, and grounds servicing equipment at optimal performance levels at all times. Duties may include, but are not limited to small motor repair, vehicle preventive maintenance, automotive inspection and repair, and mowing/field equipment maintenance and repair. Assisting in repairing electronic or mechanical baseball equipment and installing new baseball equipment as needed. Ability and willingness to perform key responsibilities listed at both the Player Development Complex and TD Ballpark.

 

 

 

Educational Requirements

 

  • High School Diploma

Experience Requirements

  • 4 years of automotive or small engine experience is required

• High School Diploma

• 4 years of automotive or small engine experience is required

• ASE or similar certification is preferred

• Diesel experience is preferred

• Hydraulic experience is preferred

• Official apprenticeship training is preferred (ASE or equivalent)

• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment

• Good mechanical, analytical, research and problem-solving skills

• Self-starter with practical judgment and a decisive manner

• Desire to work as part of a collaborative, high-performing and cross-functional team

• Valid driver’s license

• Legally able to work in the United States

• Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call as required

Special Requirements

• Servicing, repairing, and inspecting on-site vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to gas & electric carts, scissor-lifts, cleaning machines, field conversion equipment, and small engine repair

  • Must be proficient in reel and bedknife grinding 

• Routine maintenance of the pressure washing system, such as pressure washing units, hoses and pressure washing guns, and deal with any emergency service calls as needed

• Assist in maintenance and repairs to building Emergency Generator Systems, including oil, filter and battery changes

• Perform minor welding and fabricating to equipment as needed

• Handle all 3rd party inspections of vehicles and equipment as required

• Ability to understand workshop and parts manuals, and ability to track and record all preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment

• Source and obtain quotations for equipment and vehicles parts and supplies

• Aid as required in operating grounds equipment, scissor lift, boom lift and/or other facility equipment as needed

• Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions

• Repair machines, equipment, or structures using various and appropriate tools

• Maintain specialized equipment or machinery

• Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery

• Assist in setup and take down for field activities at the complex and TD Ballpark

• Provide prompt response to emergency calls

• Complete all required training requirements to safely operate equipment and tools

• Keep the interior and exterior of the mechanics bay clean and in good order

• Inputs, tracks, and monitors work orders regularly

• Works with staff to submit work orders and resolve issues

• Order parts, supplies, or equipment

• Performs other duties as assigned
