Assistant Superintendent
McArthur Golf Club, located in Hobe Sound, Florida is seeking to hire an energetic, hands-on leader as its next Assistant Golf Course Superintendent on the Front Yard course. The desire to learn new agronomic practices and excel in the industry is a must. This position reports to the Director of Agronomy and Front Yard Golf Course Superintendent.
About the Club:
McArthur Golf Club is a Nick Price and Tom Fazio design that opened for play in 2002. McArthur is a seasonal, golf-only club open between October – June of each year. Located on the northern end of the Florida sand ridge that stretches 20 miles parallel to the Atlantic Ocean, McArthur is blessed with rolling terrain surrounded by wetlands and native Florida pine scrub. The sandy terrain provides an ideal environment for consistently firm and fast conditions in season. More recently, in February of 2021, McArthur began construction of an additional 18 hole course designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, slated to open November 2023 – The Back Yard.

Essential Job Functions:
- Work alongside the superintendent to effectively lead, develop, train, and motivate the golf course maintenance team.
- Monitor course conditions on a daily basis, providing feedback and executing on ways to elevate the member’s experience.
- Scout daily for irrigation, pest, and disease issues. Collaborate with the Superintendent to come up with a plan of action to resolve said issues.
- Use past experiences to provide recommendations on ways to improve the existing operation. The goal is to be better every day.
- Assist in daily moisture management of greens and fairways with the goal of providing consistently firm conditions. McArthur and its membership embrace brown, firm and fast conditions.
- Oversee and assist with chemical/fertilizer applications. Perform regular inventory and ordering of necessary chemicals. Maintain proper and complete application records.
- Ensure chemicals and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of following local, state, and federal regulations.
- Oversee and assist with irrigation repairs and additions. Order necessary irrigation parts as needed. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and inventory of the Irrigation room.
- Assist with the oversight of on-site contractors during summer closure months.
- Assist with daily scheduling of golf course maintenance staff. Responsible for all scheduling and management of staff on scheduled weekends.
- Work closely with golf operations staff to prepare for daily play and member events.

Educational Requirements
Certificate, Associates, or Bachelor’s degree in turfgrass science or agronomy related field
Experience Requirements
1-2 years of golf course management experience at a high end private club
Previous experience with chemical/fertilizer applications
Previous experience with golf irrigation/drainage
Team player with strong communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
Must obtain Florida pesticide license within 90 days of employment
