Seasonal Groundskeeper 


Seasonal groundskeepers, perform routine manual labor involved in golf course or tennis court maintenance; do semi-skilled to skilled grounds construction and maintenance work; operate hand powered equipment and other equipment under the direction of the golf course superintendent, assistant superintendent of assigned supervisor. Each groundskeeper may be assigned responsibility for the care and maintenance of several designated holes on the golf. course and does related work as required. 


Typical functions: 

The seasonal groundskeeper: 

  • Operates mowers and string trimmers in trimming greens, around tees, fence lines, banks and hillsides; edges cart paths; rakes and maintains sand bunkers. 
  • Mows greens, tees, rough and other areas as directed by the superintendent or assigned supervisor; rakes sand bunkers with power rakes. 
  • Sets tee markers; maintains ball washers and tee towels; maintains tennis courts; maintains water coolers; collects trash; sands and seeds tee and fairway divots. 
  • Returns all equipment to designated location at the maintenance facility; cleans equipment and maintenance areas. 
  • Maintains fuel and fluid levels on all equipment used on a daily basis, reports equipment problems or failures to the equipment manager immediately. 
  • Helps in project work of green, tee, fairway and additional areas; grades and prepares soil base; lays sod; and seeds aforementioned areas. 
  • Installs paths using gravel mixes; excavates and backfills ditches and trenches; repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems. 
  • Must be able to lift 80 Ibs., as needed. 
  • Performs other duties as directed by the superintendent or assistant superintendents, or an assigned supervisor. 


Employment standards: 

  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape construction/maintenance work. 
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools: equipment. 
  • Knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline engines; safe and efficient operation of motorized equipment. 
  • Mechanical aptitude. 
  • Physical strength, stamina, and agility. 
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions. 
  • Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and work well with others in a team environment. 
  • Possession of a valid driver's license. 
  • Mandatory Requirement: An amicable, positive, "can do" attitude.
