Assistant Superintendent
Wilderness Country Club is an 18-hole Arthur Hills design private golf course located in Naples, Florida. Home to three hundred members, Wilderness is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The Golf Course Maintenance Department is currently seeking a motivated assistant superintendent to join our team.
Annual Golf Course Maintenance Budget: 2.8 million dollars
Turf Types: Seashore Paspalum on the tees, fairways, and approaches. Bimini Bermuda on the collars. TifEagle Bermuda greens.
Total Acreage: 135 acres with 80 acres of turfgrass.
Equipment Lease: A four-year lease with Wesco Turf started this year.
Job responsibilities include:
Manages daily operations of twenty full time employees: schedules, leads, and trains to maintain the golf course in top condition. Communicate daily with the Golf Course Superintendent and Equipment Manager on agronomy plans to prioritize scheduling to meet membership expectations.
Ability to keep organized documentation of employee records: safety training, hiring, disciplinary write-ups, termination, and team building.
Assist in preparing annual budgets and planning of the golf course reconstruction set for 2028 at Wilderness. This is a great opportunity for a passionate individual that wants to excel into becoming a Golf Course Superintendent.
Oversee fertilizer and chemical applications with record keeping. Learn to understand the timing and rates of different chemical applications throughout the year and why we are applying it. Implement integrated pest management strategies to minimize the use of chemicals when appropriate.
Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance of environmental stewardship within the guidelines of the Best Management Practices and Audubon International.
Assist in controlling the Rainbird irrigation system through actively scouting to plan proper watering schedules. Possess the initiative on making irrigation head and run time adjustments as necessary. Communicate with the Golf Course Superintendent and Irrigation Technician watering plans based on weather and playability conditions.
Educational Requirements
Associate in Science or bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Golf Course Operations, or related field.
Experience Requirements
Two to three years as an assistant superintendent or second assistant superintendent.
