Position Summary:

The Head Golf Course Superintendent plays a critical role in the golf operations. The Superintendent is responsible for all agronomic management and daily maintenance of the 36 hole golf course, clubhouse grounds,  and common areas as directed by management.  This position will coordinate daily with the General Manager and Golf Shop to provide golfers an exceptional golf experience everyday.  The Superintendent’s areas of supervision include all daily crew activities, the budget, the planning and advancement of course maintenance practices upholding a top tier facility presentation, and the hiring and training of an excellent crew. The qualified candidate will be an integral team-player and will consistently advance the wellbeing of Lake Arrowhead, OGM, and the entire team. This candidate must possess a positive attitude as well as being extremely hard working, organized, attentive to detail, and motivated. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the care and maintenance of the turf and overall playing conditions, the ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands on the facility grounds.

  • Oversee and guide all operations of the Lake Arrowhead Pines golf course maintenance department and all associated personnel.

  • Recruits, supervises and retains maintenance crew. Conducts employee performance evaluations and holds regularly scheduled safety meetings.

  • Cultivates and maintains the golf course to excellent playing condition according to the standards of Lake Arrowhead and OGM.

  • Schedules maintenance practices around play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.  Coordinates daily with the General Manager and Head Golf Professional.

  • Provides detailed annual plans for the cultural practices and the designated landscaping areas. Includes rotational design to provide facility with fresh, eye-catching, interesting and pleasant atmosphere.

  • Manages water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems and provides regular reporting on retaining ponds, wells and other water source usage.

  • Provides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.

  • Oversees team in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and course equipment. Plans and budgets for prioritized future capital  replacement.

  • Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Develops annual operating budget and plans for maintenance and capital improvement projects.  Supervises and controls the same, throughout the year. 

  • Directs and assists the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, and the preparation of plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements.

Educational Requirements

2-4 year Turf Management / Horticulture degree preferred

Experience Requirements

Minimum 3 years related work, management and supervision experience 

Special Requirements

The ability to obtain a Wisconsin pesticide license
