Course Description:
North River Yacht Club is a premier private club located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, featuring a
scenic and challenging 18-hole championship golf course, extensive practice facilities, and a
high standard of conditioning and member service. We are seeking a dedicated Equipment
Manager who will play a critical role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of
our maintenance equipment fleet.
Position Summary:
The Equipment Manager is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and management of all golf
course maintenance equipment, including cutting units, utility vehicles, small-engine equipment,
and shop tools. The Equipment Manager assures all equipment is operating at peak performance
to support daily course conditioning standards.
This position works closely with and reports directly to the Director of Agronomy, contributing
to maintenance planning, workflow efficiency, and long-term equipment strategies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel-system issues on all turf equipment. Establish and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. Perform reel and bedknife grinding, adjustments, and cutting-unit setup to ensure optimal turf quality.
Maintain accurate service records, equipment hours, and scheduled maintenance logs.
Manage parts inventory, shop supplies, and relationships with vendors
Ensure proper operation of equipment through staff training and guidance.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized maintenance facility.
Assist the Director of Agronomy with equipment budgeting and capital planning.
Adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines.
Experience Requirements
Required:
Prior mechanical experience, preferably with turf equipment.
Knowledge of hydraulic systems, small engines, electrical systems, and fabrication.
Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
Preferred:
Experience working on golf course equipment (Toro, John Deere, etc.).
Experience grinding reels and setting cutting units.
Technical certifications from manufacturers or equipment technician associations.
Previous experience in a golf course maintenance environment.
