Turf Equipment Technician or Equipment/Shop Manager job

     Thank you for taking the time to look over my resume and qualifications.  First and most importantly I am a born-again Christian and God is the most important part of my life. While I’m not ashamed of my faith and am glad to let others know what I believe, I do not push my faith on anyone.


     I started working on small engines when I was 12 years old. I went on to learn how to work on ATV’s, jet skis, dirt bikes and tractors. I graduated from the Turf Equipment Technology program at Florida Gateway College in 2011 and I completed my internship at Grand Cypress Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL, where I was offered a position as a technician. However, I wanted to move back home to be with family and I was hired at Gainesville Country Club as their primary technician. This allowed me to learn more about course maintenance and I found that I also enjoyed being able to help on the course. After getting engaged to my wife, I moved to Lake City, FL where she was attending college at the time. I was offered a job at a local John Deere dealership in Lake City and, though I hated to leave the golf industry, I accepted the position as it was much closer to our home. This opportunity turned out to be a huge blessing as I learned so much more about mechanics, electrical and drivetrains than I thought was even possible. I worked there for a little over two years before we moved to western North Carolina, pursuing a better career option for my wife. However, due to the hard economy of the area, I was not able to find work, and seven months later we moved back to Lake City where we both returned to our previous jobs. Unfortunately, about a year and a half after returning to the dealership, John Deere cancelled their contract with them, which ultimately ended in my separation from the company shortly after.


    The job market in the Lake City area is not ideal and has been a struggle. We have tried to leave Florida in the last year, but apparently it just was not God’s timing for us and looking back now, we were not as ready as we thought we were. We have been working diligently the last month or so to be able to make a move happen. My wife and I feel certain that we got our ducks in a row this time around. While we don't know what the future holds, only Who holds the future, we are looking to settle down somewhere we can hopefully call home. We do know we want to go north and are looking for four distinct seasons, as we enjoy hiking, canoeing, and freshwater fishing; we’d rather be in the woods than the city any day! While we are looking for better opportunities, we can say for certain that we don’t see ourselves near the coast or in metro cities like Atlanta, Denver, etc. I do prefer 18-hole private courses, but I am open to other options. I feel that, with patience from my superior as I readapt myself with the golf industry, I am ready for a head technician role; however, I certainly am not opposed to working as an assistant technician as I’m always eager to learn more from people with experience. 


    My wife and I have done the math and determined that my salary would need to be at or above $40,000 a year for us to be able to relocate. I do have a vast collection of tools and my own tool chest that I would be more than willing to bring with me. At the moment I am willing and able to travel for interviews. I don’t fly but driving long distances is not a problem for me.

 Oxygen Sales and Service – Lake City, FL

September 16th, 2019 – October 17th, 2019

 Title: Technician

Reason for Leaving: Company closed Lake City location.

Job Description: Service and repair oxygen concentrators, mostly Everflo and Perfecto units. Replaced items such as flow meters, sieve beds and pc boards. Checked for leaks in unit and repaired any leaking tubing or gaskets. Rebuilt SMC and ASCO 4-way valves. Rebuild compressors. Document all repairs on work order. Measure and record oxygen output levels of units after repairs.

 Reason for Leaving: Seeking more hands-on job that requires less screen time.

Job Description: Acquired used name brand tools such as Snap-on, Matco and MAC. Inspected, cleaned and made any repairs to tools prior to listing for sale on Ecommerce sites. Also sold used motors, parts and specialty parts on Ecommerce sites. Sold items such as used generators, landscape equipment and shop items through Ecommerce sites.

Reason for Leaving: Company lost franchise with John Deere.

Job Description: Completed both minor and major repairs on residential and commercial John Deere landscape equipment. Completed both minor and major repairs on John Deere tractors 40hp and under. Completed services and preventative maintenance on all John Deere equipment including large row crop agriculture tractors. Completed electrical diagnosis and repairs on landscape equipment, hay equipment, small – mid size tractors and large row crop tractors. Complete in field service calls on a variety of landscape equipment, finish mowers and tractors. Complete pre-delivery inspections on all new equipment. Installed accessories such as radios, lights, mirrors, front end loaders and extra controls in a variety of John Deere equipment. Installed extra hydraulic valves, controls and fitting when installing such equipment as grapples and backhoes on tractors. Updated software on tractors by using specialized John Deere software. Complete DPF clean-outs and recoveries as well as repairs on all size equipment. Assembled new equipment as needed including, tractors, residential and commercial landscape equipment, hay equipment, finish mowers and brush mowers. Utilized specialty tools from John Deere to complete tasks. Utilized and communicated with John Deere DTACT solutions both over the phone and online to aid in resolving issues with equipment and parts. Utilized John Deere PARTS ADVISOR to look up parts. Documented all repairs of equipment on work order. Aided service manager in billing work orders, customer service, scheduling repairs and pick-up/delivery of equipment. Helped at parts counter as needed. Completed housekeeping tasks in the shop to maintain a clean environment. Completed yard maintenance duties as needed. Helped in sales department with equipment demonstrations and teaching customers how to properly use equipment. (Gap in working dates is because I moved to North Carolina with my wife briefly while she followed a career advancement.)

Reason for Leaving: Received job offer from HoBo Tractor Co.

Job Description: Serviced and maintained all equipment used on the golf course. Made any repairs that was needed on golf carts, blowers, weed eaters, chain saws, greens mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers, gang units, aerification units, trenchers, sprayers and tractors. Maintained reel units by grinding. Rebuilt reel units as needed. Maintained cutting units daily by checking and adjusting height of cut, checking and adjusting reel to bedknife contact, facing bedkives and backlapping reels. Ordered parts and kept track of inventory. Completed preventative maintenance on all equipment. Kept records of repairs and costs. Helped on the course as needed with raking bunkers, removing trash, setting tee markers, cutting cups, mowing greens, mowing rough and sweeping greens after aerification. Completed housekeeping duties and organization in the shop. Ran errands to pick-up supplies and parts for Superintendents.

Reason for leaving: Did not like driving spray truck with spray boat in Jacksonville daily.

Job Description: Sprayed ponds and ditches with chemicals to maintain growth of vegetation and algae. Assisted with repairs of fountain units.
