Equipment Assembler

I currently work on the Flex Draper assembly line in Department 460 for John Deere Harvester Works. I use power tools and wrenches to assemble, disassemble and repair parts for the Flex Draper. I perform my own prep set up for all parts that are to be assembled. I work with parts of all sizes and shapes, which include but are not limited to nuts, bolts, washers, hydraulic lines, cutter bar knives, metal guards etc. I use hoists with remote controls to move heavy parts as needed to be assembled. I wear all proper PPE and follow all safety precautions. I wear ear plugs, safety glasses, metatarsal boots and a bump cap at all times during work hours. I keep my work area neat and clean. I order parts when needed in a timely fashion as to not run out and keep the line moving. There is frequent moving, lifting and placement of materials and parts. I use impact and torque wrenches. Work involves set up, operation and maintenance of power, pneumatic and hand tools.

 

General Equipment Assembler

I was previously employed in the Assembly and Paint Division of JMTC. I worked on the ambulance line and the MWMSS line. I had a lead detail on the ambulance line. I lead a crew of 8-10 employees and independently performed tasks after given guidance from management to complete important areas of operation to get ambulances off the line and out the door to our soldiers. I kept accurate computer records and utilized my time to ensure management and employees were aware of all necessary issues that could help improve the assembly line process. I used concepts from Lean Manufacturing events held at JMTC in my area to streamline the assembly line and make it more productive. I worked with management to ensure a safe and productive assembly line. I used my knowledge to ensure my employees were working in a safe manner and providing a quality product. I have done extensive work on the Ambulance line and followed all safety precautions. I used power and pneumatic tools in accordance with the safety guidelines provided by JMTC for completion of various important tasks. I used hand tools in accordance with safety guidelines such as hammers, socket and impact wrenches, screw drivers, wrenches, files, etc. I used hand pallet jacks and push carts in a safe manner to complete important tasks and procedures related to the job. I would frequently stack, move, load, unload and rework materials in boxes, crates and pallets. I kept my work area neat, clean and in order. I would learn assembly operations to perform work unsupervised. I assembled and installed metal or plastic parts with nuts, washers, screws, and bolts using hand tools, wrenches, electric and pneumatic power tools per safety regulations in accordance with JMTC. Work involved set up, operation and maintenance of power, pneumatic and hand tools. I informed my supervisor of any part or hardware shortages in adequate time to keep assembly work deadlines on schedule. Work required standing and bending in uncomfortable positions for duration of scheduled work hours. There was frequent moving, lifting and placement of materials and parts. Sometimes work involved getting minor cuts, burns and bruises while operating equipment in a safe manner. I was exposed to dirt, dust, oil, and grease which require wearing gloves, steel towed safety shoes, safety shields and safety glasses. I inspected tools and equipment for abnormal wear or unsafe conditions and report such conditions to my supervisor. I interpreted instructions given by supervisors, which included some blue print reading. I used instructions from management and other higher graded employees and applied that knowledge to make the applications and repair of all equipment. I completed repairs to wiring and equipment by cutting, removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering connections, fittings and wirings. I applied a broad knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and equipment assembly to install, adjust, replace, and assemble a variety of mobile equipment components. I assembled, repaired and serviced a variety of mobile equipment components, portable units and shelters and van type trucks. I was able to apply my knowledge to make the applications and repair of all equipment. Work was of a repetitive nature which involved fitting, aligning, and adjusting a variety of mobile equipment components, subassemblies and complete assemblies to extremely close tolerances. I completed the installation or rearrangement of electrical components consisting of lights, switches, outlets, relays, junction boxes, etc. I worked on a wide variety of major components, complex assemblies, subassemblies, and mobile equipment systems. I completed all work in accordance with all of JMTCs safety specifications without more than normal supervision. I was able to use all materials provided and technical practices learned to complete important tasks while following all safety guidelines provided by JMTC.

Assistant Mechanic

As the Assistant Mechanic, I was responsible for the repair and preventative maintenance on over $1 million dollars worth of equipment for a 54-hole golf course. I worked with the Head Mechanic to diagnose problems and make repairs. The equipment was primarily Toro, Kubota and Yamaha. We utilized the “My Turf” system for all of the Toro equipment, which is a proactive management tool for a majority of our equipment and preventative maintenance work. I kept a preventative maintenance schedule for all of the golf course equipment. I used and maintained all tools in a safe manner. I have experience reading and interpreting parts diagrams and service manuals. I can interpret instructions and specifications (related to mobile equipment operation). I carried out assigned projects and tasks given to me either verbally or written using the appropriate tools skillfully and safely. I followed verbal and written operating instructions to complete required tasks. I assembled and disassembled metal parts with nuts, bolts, and washers using various hand or power tools. I operated all of the equipment we had using every safety precaution. My position frequently required standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. I have basic fabrication and welding skills. I am experienced in small engine (2cycle and 4cycle) maintenance and repair. I enjoy the challenge of diagnosing and repairing golf course equipment and keeping an accurate inventory while staying within the parameters of the budget and implementation of our preventative maintenance program. I maintained an organized/clean work area, office and parts room. I have an attention to detail. I am willing to work hours required to meet expectations including working weekends and holidays. I have experience ordering parts and managing the parts inventory. I worked with management to problem solve corrective ways to fix issues with equipment and create corrective actions to save time and money. I have some experience maintaining sharp cutting reels: grinding reels and bedknives and backlapping cutting units. I also have experience sharpening rotary mower blades. I am able to check and/or change the height of cut on any mower. I have experience rebuilding hydraulic motors and replacing hydraulic hoses and fittings. I replaced or rebuilt bearings and seals on most of the equipment. I was exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, grease, oils, and cleaning agents. I applied a variety of lubricants such as oils and greases to industrial equipment including mechanical and hydraulic machines as well as coolants. I have experience checking and changing all belts, hoses, brakes, spark plugs, starters, alternators, batteries etc. I plug and/or replace all sizes of tires relating to golf course equipment. I followed all protocols for wearing personal protective equipment and the use of safety shoes, safety shields and safety glasses when necessary. 

Operations Specialist

Under supervision and according to established procedures at Palmer Hills Golf Course, I was responsible for the safe operation of a variety of equipment related to the upkeep of the golf course. I provided input into course construction plans and mowing and irrigation schedules; overseen and assisted temporary part time employees on assigned work projects. I performed routine preventative maintenance and kept records for all mowers and work vehicles(carts, trucks, tractors) such as changing oil, changing filters (oil, hydraulic and fuel), spark plugs, belts and lubrication and greasing of all equipment. I was required to do work that involved standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. I operated various types and sizes of motor vehicles and industrial equipment associated with maintenance work requirements. Performed snow removal with a truck and plow as well as with a push snow blower and shovel. I was required to be on call during the winter months. I performed routine maintenance on Stihl chainsaws and string trimmers (checking and replacing spark plugs and air filters as needed; tightening or replacing blades and string). Possess the ability to properly and safely use a wood chipper and chainsaws. I received training and was certified on how to properly and safely operate a fork truck. Installed new drain tile and new sand in traps throughout the course. I possessed a valid Iowa Pesticide Applicators License (exp-2014). I set the height of cut and quality of cut on all mowers, including but not limited to: John Deere 220b, 220c and 220 E-Cut walk mowers, John Deere 8000 E-Cut fairway units, John Deere tee mower, Toro Groundsmaster 1000 walk mower. I also backlapped all reel mower units, as well as, sharpened the blades on all rotary blade mowers - Toro Sidewinder, John Deere 7400 and Progressive Pull-Behind.

I mowed fairways and rough with John Deere tri-plexes and five-plexes. I operated all of the equipment by following all safety rules and regulations set by the golf course. I was trained to do course set up along with all of the routine maintenance on the course (brush clearing, string trimming, push mowing etc). While at TPC, I was involved in the preparation and worked the John Deere Classic, which is a PGA Tour event. Irrigation troubleshooting - digging up heads and testing them, as well as, finding leaks and repairing them. I routinely and safely cleared brush. I operated chainsaws while wearing all of the needed Personal Protective Equipment.

Assistant Superintendent

As an Assistant Superintendent at Lakes of the Four Seasons, I gained administrative experience, such as, time cards - computer skills - various paper work. I made schedules, job lists for the day and lead small crews in various tasks on the go. I was responsible for the training and supervision of all new employees. I gained experience working on irrigation heads (Toro and Rainbird). A waterfall was installed and landscaped in front of the clubhouse and it was my job as the assistant to successfully manage our crew in the planting and overall care of the annuals and perennials, as well as, re-sod parts of the clubhouse. I installed new drain-tile in some of the bunkers and re-sodded the driving range tee. I gained experience in snow removal by using a plow and a pick-up truck. I gained the ability to manage all aspects of golf course maintenance at an 18 hole private course.
