Created in 1956, Elcona Country Club was originally designed by legendary golf architect William Diddel. Respected architect Arthur Hills has renovated and improved upon the original Diddel design at Elcona. In addition to being a challenging, championship 18 hole layout, Elcona Country Club is one of five golf courses in Indiana designated a Certified Golf Course Sanctuary by Audubon International. Elcona is also one of 8 courses in Indiana to have hosted every State Amateur and Professional Championship. The duties of the Staff Horticulturist consist of, but are not limited to, the following: Selects, propagates and/or grows plant materials (except trees and larger shrubs) for ornamental use on and around the golf course, clubhouse and other buildings. Design annual and perennial flowerbeds that enhance the overall member experience and presentation of the property. Aids and advises the Superintendent regarding the club’s Audubon program. Selects, obtains, and installation of all mulch products on property. Trims and prunes hedges and shrubbery. Continue the traditions of environmental stewardship and habitat creation that has been established. Aid in the design, installation, and maintenance of low-pressure irrigation systems for landscaping. Help instruct staff in routine maintenance of ornamental plantings. Applies pesticides and fertilizers to ornamental plantings. Advise the superintendent of the need for tree trimming services. Assist the staff in the planning, decoration, and maintenance of the clubhouse Christmas activities and plantings.
