The Village Club of Sands Point covers approximately 210 acres and includes; an 18-hole Tom Doak designed course with stunning views of the Hempstead Harbor, a swimming pool that is currently undergoing major renovations, 12 regulation tennis courts, 5 platform courts, the Guggenheim Mansion which hosts formal dining as well as a variety of events and the Grille a separate outlet which houses casual dining for club members and guests. The former Guggenheim estate and later the IBM Country Club was purchased by the Village of Sands Point in 1994. The golf course underwent a major renovation with 9 new holes of golf opening in July 2000. The existing 9 hole course underwent an extensive renovation and opened on May of 2001 as an 18-hole golf course. In 2016 a complete bunker renovation was performed. The mansion continues to serve as the focal point for numerous club activities. In addition, lodging is available to visiting guests of members. The Village Club of Sands Point is a municipal owned private club located in Sands Point New York. We are looking to add an individual to our team who is eager to play a major role in enhancing our club, its staff and its excellent reputation. The individual should be self-motivated, hard-working and possess a keen eye for detail. The Assistant Superintendent will be a proven leader looking to advance their career in the turf management industry who will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in the planning and implementing of the budget, operating plans, as well as the training and supervision of the maintenance team and be focused on providing consistently high-quality conditions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: · Effectively manage a predominately Spanish speaking staff. · Plan and implement staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved with high efficiency. · Supervise and perform various maintenance duties to maintain the golf course in proper playing conditions according to club standards. · Assist with daily irrigation management practices and scheduling. Perform upkeep of the irrigation system including changes and repairs as necessary. · Assist with the development and implementation of fertility, Integrated Pest Management and cultural practice programs for proper turf grass and plant care. Perform application equipment calibration along making with fertilizer and pesticide applications. · Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA rules and regulations, relating to chemical and fertilizer storage and disposal, employee safety, public safety, etc. · Assist with the management of employment activities for maintenance team members, including but not limited to, personnel recruitment and selection, training, performance evaluations, discipline and termination, etc. · Maintain accurate records pertaining to department activities including, but not limited to; labor schedules, course maintenance, construction activities, equipment repair, safety meetings and activities, fertilizer and chemical applications and pest control practices. · Perform other duties as appropriate and necessary.
