  6. MANUFACTURERS' GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB ABOUT THE CLUB Fort Washington, PA | Over one hundred and twenty years ago, a group of industrial leaders founded the Manufacturers' Club of Philadelphia. The membership was made up largely of textile manufacturing executives from the area, hence the club's unique name. The original Clubhouse was a magnificent structure erected at Broad and Walnut Streets in the hear of Center City. As a reminder of this time, Manufacturers' original charter, signed May 19, 1887, is displayed in today's Clubhouse located in Fort Washington. Desiring a country club and golf course, the membership would relocate to a beautiful location in the nearby suburbs. The Board of Directors, led by then President John Fisler, appointed a committee on February 1, 1923 to secure an option to purchase Ridgewood Farm, located in Upper Dublin Township. There is where William Flynn was hired. William Flynn had space to spare when designing this course. It is said the Flynn did much of his original planning simply by sitting atop the clubhouse hill with a sketch pad in his lap, routing the holes over the terrain spread out far below. The course that finally emerged was reportedly little changed from what he had envisioned as he commanded the entire sweep of the tract from this aerie. It is classic parkland golf. As a result, the PGA has relocated some notable trophies and artifacts that trace its nearly 100 years to the new “PGA Gallery” area of the PGA Golf Club. The Taplow Pub at PGA Golf Club pays tribute to the origin of the PGA of America, when on January 17, 1916 a group of New York-area golf professionals, accompanied by several prominent amateur golfers, attended a luncheon at the Taplow Club in New York City. The Wanamaker Course Widely considered one of the most picturesque layouts in Florida, legendary architect Tom Fazio nestled the Wanamaker Course into its natural surroundings. Honoring the merchant who was the catalyst for founding the PGA of America, the Wanamaker’s fairways are routed around wetlands, over gentle hills, and through native palmetto and sabal palms. It all makes for an unforgettable round of golf, as large hazards guard subtly-sloped greens and provide a risk-reward element that’s hard to find anywhere else. Having recently undergone extensive renovations, fairways were groomed with Celebration Bermuda grass; bunker surrounds and faces were re-grassed with Empire Zoysia; and several ornamental species of turf were planted to reframe the holes. The Wanamaker Course ranked #17 in 2020 Golfweek's "Best in State" Courses You Can Play. The Dye Course Designed by World Golf Hall of Famer Pete Dye in 2000, the Dye Course is ranked in Golfweek’s “Florida’s Top 20,” this links-style masterpiece is as beautiful as it is challenging. Deep pot bunkers and volcano beaches, vast coquina waste areas and devilish greens treat members and guests to a wildly entertaining 18 holes. Emphasizing native surroundings and Dye’s uninhibited style for creative design, the Dye Course features pine straw roughs, vast coquina waste bunkers and grass-based bunkers. A links-style course that weaves by the 100-acre ‘Big Mamu’ Wetlands, it offers pure Florida surroundings, with hints of design from the older British Isles’ courses for flavor. In 2016, the Dye Course underwent a complete re-grassing and renovation project. Celebration Bermuda was installed on fairways, putting surfaces were expanded to their original sizes and outfitted with TifEagle, and TifGrand was chosen for the collars. The Dye Course ranked #25 in Golfweek’s 2020 "Best in State" Courses You Can Play. The Ryder Course Named after Samuel Ryder, namesake and founder of the Ryder Cup, the rightfully named Ryder Course features a more Carolinas-style feel. Majestically meandering over rolling hills and elegant pine trees, this Tom Fazio design showcases more than 11 lakes and ponds along its fairways and green complexes, demanding strategic placement and accuracy from each shot. Yet, rest easy, large landing areas make it a treat to play for all skill levels. With an overhaul project to several aspects of the golf course completed in December 2017, this track is a pleasure to play for all skill levels.
