SUMMARY: The Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, bunkers, roughs, water features and cart paths. Responsible for the daily activities of the golf course maintenance staff, including supervision and training of staff to perform all the tasks associated with maintaining the golf course, including but not limited to scheduling and filling in for absent staff. The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and represents the PGA of America in the utmost professional manner. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Communicate with golf shop as needed to inform personnel on maintenance procedures, (topdressing, cart paths only, etc.). Participate with applications of fertilizer and pesticides on the course. Assist in daily setup of equipment prior to arrival of team members. Check course team members for proper cleaning of equipment in the morning/afternoon. Make sure all assigned equipment is returned to the proper location. Daily scheduling, training, follow up of staff to accomplish duties as laid out by the Lead Assistant Superintendent or Golf Course Superintendent. Tour the course daily with attention to greens, tees, fairways and rough conditions as a minimum. Note all areas where issues are seen and plan for the next day events. Involved with moisture management on the golf course utilizing soil probes, TDR’s etc. for excess or dryness. Root depth and soil conditions should be noted and used to develop water practices. Work with the Equipment Manager on equipment use and requirements. Assure that all equipment is properly set up and operating as needed in the field. Discuss daily schedules, programs and concerns with the Lead Assistant Superintendent with attention to efficient management and quality control in mind. Assure that all issues and concerns are brought to the Golf Course Superintendent and Lead Assistant as quickly as possible in order to lessen potential negative impact. Training of staff along including staff safety. Ongoing management staff meeting to discuss current and future issues. Weekly labor meetings to discuss past week and following week issues, successes and programs. Monthly safety meetings. Assure that environmental, compliance and maintenance facility are monitored and maintained. Maintain pesticide license and continual education in the field of concern.

Valhalla Golf Club Job Description Job Title: SPRAY TECHNICIAN Department: Golf Course Maintenance Operations Reports to: Lead Superintendent FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range: SUMMARY Performs chemical applications on golf course properties. Responsible for reading, understanding and keeping current with the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Also responsible for compiling preliminary reports of pesticide usage for the Golf Course Superintendent and Director of Agronomy. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Spray prescribed amounts of fertilizer, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides, using hoses and truck mounted tank, taking care not to injure turf or shrubs. Fills sprayer tank with chemicals and water according to formula, using hose or pump. Pull spray hose from truck-mounted reel, turn knob, press lever, and point nozzle selected according to site characteristics, such as type of infestation, wind direction and velocity, and terrain. May use portable spray equipment. Calibrate spray equipment as required. Assist course superintendents in planning current and long-range spray programs. Maintain daily spray records. Maintain proper chemical inventory. Responsible for the direct preventive maintenance of all equipment associated with the task of spraying. Read, understand and keep current with all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state and federal regulations. Responsible for the safety of all helpers. Perform routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment. Follow label instructions and wear proper safety equipment. Valhalla Golf Club Job Description Job Title: GROUNDS CREWMAN I Department: Golf Course Maintenance Operations Reports to: Lead Superintendent FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Salary: SUMMARY: Maintains grounds and turf of golf course in playing condition as directed by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Operates hand mowers on greens, aprons, tees, fairways, rough, lake banks, around tees and grounds. Exercises extreme care not to injure turf and shrubs. Practices safety while operating equipment. Reports equipment or course issues immediately. Edges cart paths, flymo bunker faces, string trim lake banks and around tees, edges and rakes sand bunkers. Sand bunkers can be either hand or machine raked. Completion of jobs and cleanup of the work area as required. Helps in project work as directed. Excavates and back fills trenches with hand tools, operates utility vehicles as required. Makes sure while operating equipment and hand tools, that all necessary and supplied safety equipment is worn. (Glasses, ear plugs and hard hats) and that all tools and equipment are properly cleaned, stored and maintained as required. Cleans machines after use and makes minor adjustments to the equipment under the supervision of the mechanic. Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment on a daily basis and before use, inspects equipment before use and reports problems or failure to the supervisor immediately. Operates equipment in a safe and effective manner with attention to task completion. Stays on cart paths where available and does not further impact high traffic areas. Practices safety on the job, including but not limited performing job tasks with little or no disruption to the members and guests playing the golf course, returning of all equipment to the designated location and keeping the maintenance areas clean and free of clutter.
