Founded in 1854 Philadelphia Cricket Club is America’s oldest country club. In the 1920’s it was the home course of golf architects A.W. Tillinghast and George C. Thomas Jr. and includes 3 courses built in 3 different centuries. The Club’s two campuses include 45 holes of golf, 22 grass tennis courts, 10 clay tennis courts, and an athletic field. Our St. Martins course, built in the 1800’s and site of the 1907 & 1910 US Open went through a restoration program in 2012. In 2013, our A.W. Tillinghast designed Wissahickon golf course was restored with golf course architect, Keith Foster. It received U.S. Best Restoration of 2013 by GolfWeek and Cybergolf. Wissahickon is currently ranked as #30 in Golfweek’s best classic courses and fourth in Pennsylvania. We hosted the 2016 Champions Tour’s Constellation Senior Players Championship which was televised by the Golf Channel and met with rave reviews from the TOUR players. Our 2002 Hurdzan/Fry designed, Militia Hill course is maintained to equally high standards. We will be hosting this year's Pennsylvania Open and the USGA Four-Ball Championship in 2024. The club recently passed a Long Range Plan that includes work at the St Martins Campus that you will get to help execute. You will be responsible for staff supervision and hiring, course conditions, fertilizer and chemical applications, irrigation scheduling, and working with the Director of Grounds to help execute the long range plan. You will also work with the Grounds Maintenance Manager to plan pesticide applications and early order purchasing as well as budgeting for St Martins campus. As the Athletic Superintendent, you will oversee the Great Lawn, Har-Tru Courts, the athletic field, and the pool area. You will also help the Golf Course Superintendent with the nine hole golf course. The Great Lawn is 4 Acres of Bent Grass and Poa used for grass tennis, Lawn Bowls, Croquet, and Cricket. You will have the unique opportunity to work on a golf course with push up Bent/Poa greens and Zoysia tees and fairways. The combination of warm season fairways with push up greens (some from the 1800’s) is a truly unique experience. The opportunity to maintain The Great Lawn as it is used for tennis and various other sports is a chance to provide championship conditions to a wide variety of members who use The Great Lawn for varying sports or events. You will be tasked with helping develop a chemical and fertilizer plan and irrigation schedule in maintaining exceptional playing conditions. You will also have autonomous mowers used to mow the athletic field and pool lawn area. With the help of the mechanic you will be responsible to make sure they are operating properly and maintaining those areas of turf.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a mechanical aptitude to join our team. Ideal candidates should be organized, clean, honest, self-motivated, disciplined, a team player. Will be responsible for repairing and maintaining all golf course equipment, including company vehicles. As a team player, the equipment technician will be occasionally be asked to help on the golf course and with various projects. This will allow for involvement in multiple areas of the operation and not limit you to just the shop all day. At PCC we offer the ultimate work experience with a wide range of equipment and tools for you to accomplish tasks in an easy manner. We also have an excellent equipment lease that allows for a rotation of new equipment and our currently starting to work on our new John Deere lease that will start in June 2022. The club recently built an equipment technician toolbox so that you will have access to almost any tool you will ever need and we are continuously adding new tools as needed. We will also provide continuing education and training from various outside sources to help you grow as a Turf Equipment Technician. The position would be asked to work 8 hour shifts Monday through Friday and a 4 hour shift on Saturday from April - September during the golf season. The assistant will work directly with the Superintendent and the Director of Grounds in daily planning, scheduling, and supervising of all golf course maintenance activities. The assistant superintendent will have the chance to take part in project management, monthly budgeting, chemical and fertilizer record keeping, scheduling, and applications as well as labor tracking.

We are looking to help a student who would like to get an early start on their 2021 summer internship or use this unique time to add a Fall/Winter internship to their resume. We would be flexible with your class schedule and online learning so that work will not get in the way of your education. You would be able to help partake in fall aerification, irrigation additions and projects, as well as various construction and winter projects. You would work directly with our assistants and superintendents as a core member of our turf team. These same assistants and superintendents will be able to provide valuable real-life experience and knowledge to help with your studies during virtual learning. Philadelphia Cricket Club likes to promote from within so this Fall/Winter internship could lead to a summer internship and possibly an assistant superintendent position after graduation. We are also looking for students who are looking a summer internship in 2021. This internship will provide a diverse experience at Philadelphia Cricket Club, as you will get to work on all three golf courses at some point during your internship. Wissahickon, Militia Hill, and St Martins courses all offer unique learning experiences. The three courses have USGA, California, and Push-Up greens between them and provide cool and warm season grass experience. You will also get a chance to work on the great lawn, which is used for grass tennis, cricket, and various other activities. This will provide you experience working on fine manicured turf outside the normal golf course work. You will also be able to work on a various number of Fall/Winter projects that would be something outside the scope of a normal summer internship. We have an outstanding support system of experienced turf professionals, golf professionals, and a large membership. This leads to an accelerated learning atmosphere while working here and larger network for career advancement. We have been fortunate to help four of our superintendents obtain positions of their own in the last five years. We allow, arrange, and pay employees for professional tournament volunteer experiences. We are in the third year of a John Deere master equipment package, and nearly all the equipment at PCC is new. We have a large turf staff from a variety of universities to help you during your time here and answer any questions you may have while here and after you have left. Our Chestnuthill campus has St Martins, our nine hole golf course built in 1895, an athletic field, and 21 grass tennis courts where you will get a wide variety of different experiences. This will include maintaining both warm and cool season grasses. St Martins has Penncross bentgrass push-up greens as well as Meyers Zoysia grass tees and fairways. You will also get some experience working on the Great Lawn which houses 21 grass tennis courts in season and a cricket field in the fall. Our Flourtown campus includes, the Wissahickon course built by A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1922 and the Militia Hill course built by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry and opened in 2002. Militia Hill has L93 bentgrass tees and fairways and A1/A4 bentgrass on California Greens. Wissahickon has 007 bentgrass tees and fairways and A1/A4 on USGA Greens. In 2013, we finished the restoration of our A.W. Tillinghast designed Wissahickon golf course with golf architect, Keith Foster. The restoration has received recognition as the best restoration of 2013 by Golf Week’s Brad Klein and Cybergolf’s Jay Flemma. This restoration included constructing USGA greens, rebuilding the tees, bunkers, and re-grassing all turf surfaces. The Wissahickon course is currently ranked as the 29th best classic golf course in the United States. Our 2002 Hurdzan - Fry designed Militia Hill course received a bunker renovation in 2010 and stands as a true gem itself. The Wissahickon course will be hosting the 2020 USGA Amateur Four-ball Championship next year which will provide you with great tournament experience. PCC will also help to get you set up to volunteer at another large scale tournament at another golf course to get you exposure to another world class golf course and give you a chance to work with more people in the turf industry.
