Assistant Equipment Manager The Aronimink Golf Club Assistant Equipment Manager reports to the Golf Course Equipment Manager and/or the Golf Course Superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The Assistant Equipment Manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Equipment manger and/or the Superintendent. The Assistant Equipment Manager places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building. Responsibilities: Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment, including, diesel-, electric- and gasoline-powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work. Instructs and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment. Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work. Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies. Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment. Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use. Oversees the shop area maintenance. Regulates employees' use of equipment in absence of Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the Superintendent. Recommends equipment purchases and leases. Requirements: Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses. Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair. Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment. Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession. Ability to move heavy objects. Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment. Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work. Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records. Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course. The applicant will work closely with the Golf Course Management Leadership Team in the daily course preparations as well as, but not limited to, pesticide and fertilizer applications, irrigation troubleshooting, tournament set up, strict water management and crew leadership. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and show willingness to learn and excel through hard work and personal achievements. This position will provide the essential skills and discipline required to reach the ultimate goal of becoming a Golf Course Superintendent. Aronimink Golf Club was founded in 1896 and moved to its current location in 1926. Donald Ross, the Scottish pro who became one of America’s foremost golf architects, was commissioned to design the course. Upon returning in 1948 Ross said of the course, “I intended to make this my masterpiece, but not until today did I realize I built it better than I knew.” In 2017, Aronimink Golf Club completed extensive Master Plan restorations, returning the golf course to its vintage look based off aerial and ground photos from 1929. Famed architect, Gil Hanse, lead the design team in restoring 174 original bunkers, reclaiming lost green and fairway space, and reshaping tees to their natural free-form look. AGC is looking forward to showcasing these restorations in June of 2020 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the 2026 PGA Championship. Today, Aronimink remains in Golf Digest’s Top 100 courses in the country and 2020 will prove to be yet another critical bookmark in the clubs rich history. Over the past century, the club has hosted many prestigious events. Most notably the 1962 PGA Championship, 1977 U.S.Amateur Championship, 1997 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, 2003 Senior PGA Championship, 2010 and 2011 AT&T National Championship and the 2018 BMWChampionship.
