Job Description: Assistant Superintendent of Tunxis Country Club

Position Summary:
The Assistant Superintendent is a key member of the golf course maintenance team at Tunxis Country Club. This position works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure the overall health, appearance, and playability of the golf courses. The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for managing and supervising a team of groundskeepers, assisting with the development and implementation of maintenance plans, and ensuring that all golf course maintenance operations are carried out efficiently and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Management:
   - Supervise and lead a team of groundskeepers, providing guidance, training, and support.
   - Schedule and assign tasks to team members, ensuring adequate coverage for all maintenance activities.
   - Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.

2. Golf Course Maintenance:
   - Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance programs, including fertilization, irrigation, mowing, pest control, and equipment maintenance.
   - Monitor and evaluate the condition of the golf course, identifying areas that require attention and implementing appropriate corrective measures.
   - Participate in the daily maintenance activities, including mowing, watering, aerating, and bunker maintenance.
   - Ensure that all maintenance operations comply with environmental and safety regulations.

3. Irrigation System Management:
   - Assist in the operation and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system, including troubleshooting and repairing issues as needed.
   - Monitor weather conditions and adjust irrigation schedules accordingly to ensure optimal turf health and water conservation.
   - Conduct regular inspections of irrigation equipment, identify faulty components, and coordinate repairs or replacements.

4. Equipment and Inventory Management:
   - Assist in the management of equipment and supplies, including inventory control, maintenance scheduling, and procurement.
   - Ensure that all equipment is properly used, cleaned, and stored, and that safety protocols are followed.
   - Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.

5. Communication and Collaboration:
   - Communicate effectively with the Golf Course Superintendent, sharing updates on maintenance activities, challenges, and accomplishments.
   - Collaborate with other departments, such as the golf pro shop and clubhouse, to coordinate maintenance activities and support their needs.
   - Maintain positive relationships with members, addressing their concerns and providing excellent customer service.

Educational Requirements

- An Associates' degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field is strongly recommended.
- Relevant certifications or specialized training in golf course management and turfgrass maintenance are beneficial.
- Continuing education and professional development in golf course maintenance practices and industry trends are encouraged.

Experience Requirements

- A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in golf course maintenance, preferably in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, including turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and equipment operation.
- Familiarity with the safe use and maintenance of landscaping and golf course maintenance equipment.
- Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations related to golf course maintenance.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse workforce.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.

Special Requirements

- Successful candidate will possess a valid Connecticut state Chemical Applicator's License
