By Vineyard Golf Club, - updated Thursday at 04:57 PM - Edgartown, Massachusetts
Vineyard Golf Club is well known as the premier sustainable golf course in America. We provide our membership with a first class golf experience while managing the turf and landscape with unique strategies. Our daily goal is to provide respectable playability conditions without using our restrictions as an excuse. Due to our severe restrictions, we tend to use more labor and resources to achieve our goal(s). Given our strict restrictions, we don't have the luxury to call the person "down the road" for advice or compare strategies. It has allowed us to conduct our own in-house research. We started this program a few years ago and it has been very rewarding as we have made progress to solve some of our many battles. **We will be posting a separate seasonal internship for the golf course and grounds, this is a unique position & opportunity. This person will help on the golf course at certain times though** Our two previous Research Managers have moved onto successful roles. We are now looking to try a different approach and recruit a Research Intern as he / she might move into this role full time post internship. Some of the unique things we are currently working on: -"Super Bent" trials (as we are hoping to re-grass our greens in the near future) -Crabgrass control on bentgrass using compaction -Crabgrass control on roughs and native using iron programs -Fraze mowing to eliminate seed banks -Bluemuda varieties for summer range tee option -Using unique programs such as peroxide and strict ferrous sulfate for bent health -Clipping yields -Demo new equipment / tools for research (light attacking fungi i.e.) -Many others ... I am looking for a student whether in school or graduating, who may want to continue their career in golf or the turf world who has an admiration for how turfgrass functions, survival, and recovery. He / she will meet with the Director of Grounds frequently as this role will require detailed and frequent data collection. Effective communication will be necessary as we tend to adapt our trials on the fly.

SPORTS FIELD SOLUTIONS IS SEEKING A: Sports Turf Manager To maintain immaculate sports fields at Legacy Christian Academy. WHO YOU ARE You love sports. You spent your childhood summers on baseball fields, your fall Friday nights under stadium lights, and your winters on hard courts. You love a natural grass playing surface. Whereas your friends are in awe when they look at a professional baseball field, you are at home. You know the difference between a ¾” height of cut and a ½”, and you understand just how hard it is to get those perfect infield edges at Globe Life Park. You are meticulous. Others see perfection when they look at your fields, but all you see is the almost-imperceptible divot in center field from the previous night’s diving catch. You love being part of a team. Could you do it alone? Sure. Do you prefer the camaraderie of a team working to build a premium brand? Absolutely. WHO WE ARE We love sports fields. How much? As much as Texas loves its high school football. That's a lot. We know that the difference between feeling like a professional athlete and a high school walk-on is often the quality of the playing surface. We love nothing more than the glimmer of stadium lights on a freshly-cut, pristine natural grass playing surface. Finally, we believe that great people transform businesses. We provide a vision and then ask our people to creatively use their talents to achieve it. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain premium sports field surfaces by implementing best practices in mowing, fertilization, pest management, aeration, moisture management, top dressing and more Prepare, maintain, and restore all baseball/softball clay areas including infield skins, mounds, home plate and warning track, and perform other tasks fundamental to athletic turf care Monitor, report and resolve field issues such as turf stress, disease, irrigation problems and pest management issues Communicate with coaching staff and school officials regarding practice/game schedules, camp dates, and inclement weather situations Perform preventative maintenance operations on various pieces of equipment Perform irrigation audits to ensure system is operating efficiently Track inventory and monitor purchasing of fertilizers and field materials FORMAL REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma. 3+ years of experience in the turfgrass management industry Valid driver’s license INFORMAL REQUIREMENTS: Passion for learning and producing high-quality work Strong communication skills Team-oriented mindset, valuing teamwork over ego
