SUMMARY:
The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the
Superintendents supervision, the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of
the golf course; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment;
and does related work as required. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the superintendent
capacity during his/her absence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Supports the goals and objectives of the Company and in accordance with the Company's commitment to
Total Customer Satisfaction, must have professional, service oriented attitude at all times.
 Assists in the maintenance of the Safety Program for Golf Course Maintenance Operations; Assists with
the monitoring of safety conditions and employees; conformance with safety policies and procedures.
 Must present professional image, report to work timely, well groomed, and wearing appropriate
professional attire or uniform.
 Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work and
supervises the employees and the use of the equipment.
 Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises
pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and
participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage
systems.

 Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may also
modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
 Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of
workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and
public relations.
 Completes other tasks and managerial responsibilities as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent
or General Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Assists in the scheduling and supervision of maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
 Interview, select, train, supervise, counsel and discipline all employees in applicable departments.
 Develops on-going professional development and training programs for all staff.
 Ensures that Club adheres to applicable federal, state and local legal requirements
 Ensure that all services to members and guests are conducted in a highly professional manner.
 Support safe work habits to ensure a safe working environment
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Listed below are the qualifications that represent of the knowledge, skill and/or ability to perform this job
successfully:
 Ability to interact positively with supervisor, management, coworkers, members and the public, to

 Ability to seek innovative ways to meet and respond to the needs and demands of an ever changing,
diverse membership.
 Regular in- person attendance, ability to follow directions, take criticism, get along with co-workers and
supervisors, treat co-workers, supervisors and member/guests with respect.
 Must be able to work independently.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
 A minimum of 3-5 years related experience in private club, resort, or golf course construction industry.
 Associates Degree from college or university; preferred by not required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
 Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals.
 Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
 Ability to speak effectively to vendors/suppliers, members, and other employees of the Club.
 Must speak and communicate in English. Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
 Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications; word, excel, powerpoint, outlook.
 Familiarity with various programs like Paycom and Rain Bird Irrigation is desirable.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
 Must provide valid document(s) to work in the US.
 Valid California Driver License is required.
 CPR/First Aid certified preferred, but not required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment at Serrano Country Club ranges from winter time lows of 30 degrees to summer time
highs to 105+ degrees. While performing these duties the employee may be exposed to outdoor and inclement
weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:
 Bend, reach with hands and arms
 Climb or balance; stoop or kneel
 Lift 25-50 lbs.
 Sit, stand and walk for long periods of time
 Must be proficient in the use of all golf course maintenance equipment included, but not limited to:
mowers, string trimmers, hand tools, small power tools, hoses and sprinklers, utility tractors, utility
vehicles, specialized machines, and 2-way radios.
