Compensation:         $75,000 to $85,000 commensurate with experience

The 18-hole Donald Ross-designed course was built on approximately 100 acres of land. The par 72 course plays at 7,043 yards from the professional tees and offers challenges and rewards for golfers of all skill levels. In 2020, the golf course architect, Dan Schlegel restored parts of the course to the original 1925 Donald Ross design. Position Summary:

The Senior Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in planning and implementing the daily and long-term activities on the golf course and property. This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibilities for all aspects of daily maintenance and set-up of the golf course, weekly cultural practices, fertilizer calibration and application, irrigation problem-solving and repair, and leading/assisting with short and long-term golf course projects. Responsibilities will include leading, directing, training, coaching overseeing and assisting the team, and working in coordination with the mechanic ensuring that equipment resources are available for grounds maintenance.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

·      Leads directs, trains, coaches, oversees and assists staff members in daily activities by scheduling work assignments, monitoring the quality and quantity of work performed, providing input, and ensuring staff are trained and work guidelines are followed.

·      Manages the irrigation staff, pesticide technicians, and equipment manager. Schedules projects, provides work instructions, follows up on each group’s daily activities, and documents the work results. 

·      Responsible for creating, recommending to the Golf Course Superintendent and managing the irrigation budget and irrigation equipment purchasing.  

·      Coordinates, schedules, and inspects projects performed by outside vendors.  Communicate and recommend corrective action when changes or delays occur other than scheduled.

·      Manages pesticide and fertilizer inventories, purchasing, and applications weekly. Prepares and submits reports in the Club’s Playbooks system.

·      Ensures a safe and clean work environment by ensuring staff members know and practice all OSHA and EPA regulations and federal and state laws.

·      Develops, implements, and trains golf course employees on departmental policy and training manuals.  Writes and maintains up-to-date job tasks for the department.  Provides orientation to new employees on departmental policy.

·      Assists with developing and implementing the AIT/Internship Program.  Reviews program every year and recommends changes.

·      Reviews weather data records and assists the Golf Course Superintendent with adjusting job tasks and work schedules according to weather patterns.

·      Provides input on equipment upgrades, projects, and staff development.

·      Assists with applicant screenings, interviews, and Human Resource issues in the department.

·      Attends seminars and workshops for continued professional growth and development.

 

Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities):

·      Experience in leading staff and teams and knowledge in exceptional course conditions.

·      Knowledge of pest control products and their applications.

·      Knowledge of turf fertilizer products and their applications.

·      Knowledge of irrigation utilization, drainage installation, repair and maintenance.

·      Experience with course renovations and project oversight.

·      Have a current Florida pesticide applicator license, or the ability to acquire a license.

·      Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

·      Have a BS, AA or Certificate in turf grass management or related experience.

·      Possess a valid driver’s license.

·      Eligibility to participate in the Club’s 401(k) retirement plan after 3 months of employment. The plan provides a total matching contribution of 4%.

·      Paid time off (PTO) starting at a rate of 3.70 hours per pay period (12 days per year) increasing each 3, 6 and 11 years of service up to 9.24 hours per pay period (30 days per year).

·      Paid life insurance of $15,000.

·      Cellphone allowance of $50 per month.

·       Annual uniform allowance of $500 per year.
