Assistant Superintendent

Vesper Country Club, located in Tyngsboro, MA is seeking a driven Assistant Superintendent to work closely alongside the Golf Course Superintendent to strategize, coordinate, and implement a successful maintenance program.

The selected individual will be heavily involved in leading daily operations, and executing agronomic programs. Our expectation is the position is a springboard toward a Golf Course Superintendent role for the selected individual, but can also provide career stability at a top-tier facility in the New England area.

Vesper amenities include an impeccably maintained Donald Ross designed championship golf course and exceptional pool, tennis and dining facilities.

Mission Statement: To provide an exceptional country club experience, offering a unique island setting with premier golf, tennis, aquatics, dining and social activities for the enjoyment of members, their family, and guests.

Club highlights:

  • Total rounds - 28-30K annually
  • Total staff -  41 at peak, 8-10 off. Full vs part ranges 60/40 - 50/50 (full/part)
  • Irrigation system - Hunter
  • Future projects- Forse Design Master plan -  scheduled for a bunker and 4 green renovation 8/1/25. 
  • Equipment - purchase program

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF POSITION:

  • Establish comfort and knowledge of the staff and property, which will lead to strong constructive conversations on future maintenance strategies and improvement.
  • Minor in-house renovations, and planned long and short-term course improvements.
  • Focus on growing conditions, playing conditions, and improving daily member experience.
  • Comfortable and confident with executing daily tasks on a golf course ranging from mowing practices, chemical/fertilizer applications, irrigation service, and repair to course setup
  • Progressive responsibilities in leadership with the ability to schedule, coach, and train employees in various golf course maintenance tasks.

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, APTITUDE AND OTHER TRAITS:

  • Proficiency in daily course operations, following a progressive path of responsibilities and skill mastery.
  • Know-how and experience managing cool-season turf with strong water management skills.
  • Comfortable working with various new technologies to optimize efficiencies.
  • Must be self-motivated, reliable, and willing to take oral and written directions.
  • Strong time management skills
  • Task-oriented with high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Formal and sincere communicator

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • A certificate, degree, or substantial experience in Turfgrass Management
  • Minimum of two seasons of experience post-graduation with strong technical skills and progressive responsibilities
  • Must obtain MA pesticide license within 90-days

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • $70,000-$90,000 depending on experience
